I'm not saying its stupid, mainly because I own a 2nd Gen myself, but I was just curious why you guys on here prefer a Camry over other cars? Is it the only thing you can afford, do you love Camrys, or do you just want something that no one else has? For me its mainly the money issue, and as it turns out because no one else has em. Like I said, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I'm just kinda curious as to why you guys like yours And just so you guys can see what I mean about the money issue, just take a look at her! Check out the site too, got come pics of her on there too.
i can't get enough of the pedal e-brake, finally i can palm with my right hand and just keep the release pulled with my left, saved me from importing a rhd car, hehe j/k
Dude, in all honesty if it was up to me i'd have a 500-hp Mustang GT right now. I remember back when I got my gen2 last April, I was like "oh god, a boring-ass family car." Which to an extent it is. But the T-bird I had at the time was a piece of crap, and I needed something I knew would get me from A to B with no complaint on a daily basis. Now, having been through so much with this car, including a light accident, she's kinda grown on me. I tell people it's got a 5-speed and they're like, "Whoa, no way, a Camry with a 5-speed?" With gas at $1.75 at my local fill-up, the car's excellent fuel economy (25 mpg, and that's with 5-10 minute warm up time in the morning) us a huge asset. My friends think the car has more power than it does (and with the cone filter, it definitely has a powerful sound). It rides OK, a little floaty for my taste, if someone tossed me 500 bucks to work on the car it'd have to be in the suspension. I think I speak for all gen2 ppl out there on that. This car uses a quart of oil every 2000 miles... shes as tight as a drum! Although parts aren't cheap for these cars, you dont' need them too often. (I do need to redo the front brakes and replace some motor mounts though... I'm going to try Ratko's polyurethane job.) So to answer your question yes I like Camrys, yes I like the fact that my old school 80's cam sticks out like a sore thumb, yes I like it's cheap to run, but being a domestic guy first (say what you will) I can't truthfully say I'd willingly buy another. Spills i notice you're rockin' the Camry with Wal-Mart kickons... lol me too! Don't they suck or what? I bought mine last May and they're already gone to hell! In '96 I was 16 years old and the parends of my best friends had a '93 LE V6 Camry.. One day we went somewhere with the camry and when I was back home I said to my father "In the future I wan a Toyota Camry"..
When I got my first car in '99 I looked for a Jeep TJ Sport 4.0, Cavalier, etc.. I was young and I didn't had the experience with cars that I have now.. This is why the cars I was looking were cheap shit And my uncle was selling his '94 Caprice Classic SS police pack.. unfortunately, he was smooking and the car was smelling cigarette and cigare.. so, one day I went to the Toyota dealer with my father and the only toyota car interresting me was the camry but it was not affordable... so, I got a '99 Corolla Special edition with mags and everything.. plus it was 5 speed..
After 10 month, I had enough of the 4 cyl. Celica... I like big cars and I was used to V6 since my father have a '92 Cavalier RS V6 3.1.. One day, I went to the toyota dealer to see what cars it has in his used stock.. and I saw a '97 XLE V6 Camry full equipped (unfortunately automatic but I had enough of cluching with the traffic every morning to go to the job) So I got it.. Yeah, I lost a lot with the Corolla since 10 month before the car was new.. but I really loved my '97 Camry..
March 2002, 2 days after my birthday I had an accident.. a woman in an elantra hit my car on the passenger side at a good speed.. the car was a total lost.. It was kind of a good luck.. I was about to lose my job and I wanted to return to school.. My best friend's uncle is working in a honda dealer and someone went there to trade a '92 LE V6 Sport 5 speed Camry for an Accord.. when he knew I was looking for a car, he called my friend and befoer even seeing the car I reserved it.. 2 weeks later when the insurance company paid me after the accident, we went at my friend's uncle job to get the car..
here is the COMPLETE STORY of my cars
And my next car will be a camry again cause I really like Camry.. I'm now a full time student, but recently I was looking for a '02 Camry SE V6 that is 'affordable'.. but I'll wait for 1-2 years after my Industrial Design class to get a camry of the year or a GS Lexus..
Well I had no choice in buying my camry. I actually had an 83 Celica that I had dropped the 22rte motor in it. But then my parents saw my burning out in it and attacthed with 2 reckless driving and exibition of acceleration tickets they made me sell it and picked a car for me to buy which was the camry. I hated it at first but after finding the camryman I pretty much fell in love with it and all 4 doors(hell I want to own a business that builds up 4 door cars). Now look at me and my plans for the car.
well my 1990 camry is my second car. When i turned 16 my mom was driving a 1988 Licoln crown vic (shit brown) she always hated driving it and wanted better. being a dentist she deserved more. so she bought a 2002 pontiac grand am, loaded. Now i get to drive "the boat"... a v8 beast made of solid steel, yah. I had the white walls and everything. i could have been a tru pimp...lol
ihad a liitle bump accident in it due to the defroster not working properlly and me having to wipe mirror and drive. i just "tapped" a truck and cracked some of my fiberglass. After 6 months of driving that i was out looking for cars. i had always loved the early honda preludes but could never find a decent one in my area. i like the boxier type cars if you hadn't noticed. one day (summer of 2002)i was mowing my neighbors lawn and noticed that they had this car sitting on the grass. it was my future 1990 camry dx. it was in beautiful condition on the inside. the paint was decent also. with 129,XXX miles it seemed like a good deal for 2K. so i moved the car onto the drivway so i could mow and it felt nice. sttering was much tighter than the boat. it resembled the box shape that i liked and the car grew on me. never the less i bought it a couple days later and loved it ever since. the boat was recently sold to my uncle for a dollar.

thats all folks,

i just like how theyre not every other car on the road (ie: honda civic), and almost nobody does 'em up
I originally got my Gen2 because I needed a newer car that didn't suck... and that would put up with my abuse. Damn, I loved that thing. I beat it up rallying around the mountain roads here and stuff, but it never really showed any of the abuse I gave it.
I was so impressed with the build quality that I got a Gen4.5 to work on. That, and every fixed up car here is a Civic, Integra, or Accord. There's only one other person in the area that I live that's worked on a Camry, and he's got a nice black Gen4 a lot like I used to have. Nice guy, too. He did it for the same reason I did, good car, and unique to see one done up.
After my Gen4.5 was smashed into at a high speed by a red-light runner, which I walked away from without a scratch while the other driver broke an arm and a leg, I was pretty damn set on getting a Gen5. Once again, the uniqueness factor... but also, the aftermarket was a lot better for it than the last car. The lines of it remind me a bit of the IS300 - which I very well might have considered if the nearest Lexus dealer wasn't over 2 hours away.
I guess it's just an obsession for a good car. Plus, you know, it's not like there are any show-quality Camry's where I come from. I'm working on changing that...
So here I am, Camry #3. 2003 LE V6 (non-vvti). And happy as a clam.
My dad has bought toyotas for his company fleet for the past 15 years, going thru about 20 of them so far. All are driven by his sales people from Toronto to all over quebec, into the States, and every single one has been sold for good money, except one which cracked it's block (or the head) after hitting 300,000 KM. Not one of his Toyotas have ever needed a new exhaust due to rust nor have any of his cars required anything beyond regular maintenance.
My car was bought from his fleet (granted, it was his old car, so I knew exactly how it was maintained and driven). It idles quieter than my uncle's Mercedes, smoother on the highway than my mom's 940 Turbo Volvo, runs at 160km/h on the highway at 3000RPM with next to no engine noise and gets 700km a tank of gas on a regular basis.
With about 20 drivers in my extended family here, when we get together, it looks like my place has turned into a toyota dealership. I think that my signature says it all about why we all love our Camrys
