Simple quick 3sgte swap question...

Ok so the 3sgte engine came out of a MR2... which is RWD... so would the stock tranny that would come with a 3sgte motor require RWD or would/does it still work for the FWD Camry?

If the tranny is for RWD then what tranny is the best to use with the motor? I've been reading around on the forum and the 1mz tranny works but isn't that an automatic tranny?

So I want it to be 5 Speed tranny not the 4 speed auto.

haha...okay.

First, the 3SGTE can be found in the MR2 turbo (RWD) AND the Celica GT-Four(AWD).

Second, the 5Spd used in the MR2 Turbo is the E153, which is the same transmission found in the 5Spd V6 Camry and Solara.

So no, the 1MZ transmission isn't neccessarily a 4spd auto. I would recommend finding an E153 from the Solara or Camry V6.

Ok so I found the engine and 5 speed Tranny from a MR2... will this tranny work or should I get the Camry Solara one?

It doesn't say that it is a E153 but it says it's the stock tranny.

um..IIRC it could work (don't quote me though), but most camry owners who need an E153 go with the Solara one.

E153 from an MR2 will required revised shift linkages (get them off a Solara/Camry E153). Other than that, it bolts right up no probs, to all VZ engines, MZ engines and S engines.

Awesome thanks everyone for the help!

I'll see what I can find for the "revised shift linkages"... To be honest I've never heard of that/those...

Mind if I ask what are they?

Revised means,, youll need to mod/change them....because the are oriented for RWD (MR2).
So you need the ones the work for FWD, or, somehow change the ones on it.

If you use an MR2 transmission, make sure it came from the TURBO version of the car. The non-turbo MR2 transmission is the same thing (pretty much) as the standard Camry 4-cylinder manual tranny...

It would be cheaper and easier to run the Camry 5-speed, but it may not hold up to the extra power of the 3s-gte as well as the E153 transmission. Either can be used with the right clutch/flywheel/mount combination.
