Question Transmission Question

Specs:
1992 Camry LE
5SFE
Automatic
181,678 Miles

for about a year now, the transmission hasnt wanted to go into reverse or drive when I'm pulling out of a parking spot, I just have to rev it a little to get it to go into gear. but today on my way to work, I noticed a wierd vibration while I was doing about 55 in Overdrive(4th) and When I went to accellerate my car would shift 1st, 2nd, 3rd, fine and then Clunk into 4th when it shifted, along with the noise the whole car shook. Reading what I have read on TN, when I got home I checked the engine mounts and the dogbone, all are fine. The transmission fluid is at full but it is almost black and it smelled like it was burnt (isnt it suppoesed to be pink).

If anyone has any insight into what the probelm may be, I would appreciate any help I can Get.

Rob

Looks like your tranny is almost fried. Take it to a shop.

I suspect your transmission has major problems. The smell and color of the fluid confirm this. Be careful about just changing your oil because this may cause the transmission to work even worse.

fluid is pink, kinda sweet smelling. thats what it's supposed to be.

ur not experiencing normal things with your car. try not to drive it anywhere but to the shop. somewhere you trust, or the stealership.

Delayed shifting from P to D or R suggesting low line pressure. most likely due to the clogged filter. Cleaning the filter may restore normal fluid flow/pressure, but if clutches are badly burnt, rebuilding is only the alternative. It also possible to boost the TV pressure by adjusting kick-down cable, but it most effective with governor controlled transaxle, such as A140L.
