Ok, I know there are a ton of threads like this. But I couldn't find many good suggestions just by searching. I need to buy new tires, because the tread on the front tires (especially the left one) is really low, and I have to make a 1200 mile trip soon. I don't want to risk it with these old tires...the front ones are getting close to the legal limit. I have a '99 Camry LE V6 with the stock 15" alloys. I need to get all seasons because I'll be driving in some snow this winter. I'm going for a mix of comfort and handling, but would take handling over comfort. Tread wear isn't all that important because I have been (and am still) considering selling my car. They also need to be $100 or less per tire. What do you recommend?
I just got done doing just that. So far my top choices the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred, Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S, Yokohama Avid H4S, and Bridgestone Potenza G009. Anyone have experience with these tires?
As I have stated in previous posts, over various Camry's 1992, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2001 Camry Solara I have had Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Pirelli, Michelin, etc and finally Yokohama Avid H4's. These BLOW all the other tires out of the water. I have since put them on both of my parents cars, mother in laws car, my 18" summer wheels and my 16" winter wheels. The ONLY way I would look elsewhere is if Yokohama stopped making them. You won't be disappointed. I was also considering the Pirelli M&S but they don't come with a treadwear warranty. Most places will match tirerack pricing and I believe it would be a 205/65 15 being $67 each. Jon. p.s. Goodyear and Bridgestone I wouldn't take them for free, Michelin are expensive and not the best out there, there marketing is good, their tires aren't. Look at Pirelli if you want to compare the Yokohama. Also change all not just 1 or 2.
Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the Yokohamas because of the price to performance ratio. I'm about to head over to discount tire and a few other places to see where I can get the best price.
P.S. - Sorry for making a thread like this, I know there must be a lot of them. I have to leave town today and I wanted to get a quick opinion here, rather that just that of a tire store employee.
If you are selling, look at the Avid T4's, the have less speed and temperature ratiing,
Alot of tire stores sell that at a lower price than the H4's and be a cost savings to you.
( I know, I looked...tire rack sells both for 67USD each)

Just to add since I own a set of Yokohama H4s... they are great in wet and dry conditions, very responsive, and have great treadwear. High performance all-season is the way to go. My previous tires were a set of regular passenger all-season Michelin Harmonys. The Michelins were allright, lasted many miles, were comfortable uber quiet. The positive difference in performance, traction, braking was very noticible when I got my H4s on. Sure my other tires were worn but it's like night and day when you go from a passenger all-season to a high perf. all season. imo. Go for the Avid H4s
Oh by the way if you need them quick... ordered mine from tirerack.com with regular UPS ground shipping it took only 2 days until they were delivered.
I try some many type of tire, since I have 3 cars in my family. I come across a tire call
Nokian (all season). Wow this is the best tire I every own.
Only Kaltire carry them. They are not cheap, but by far is the best tire I even own. There are some review about this tire too. search google and you might find them.
Im not sure if this is still the case as it was a couple of years ago, and im sure their line has changed, but around 2003 my parents put nokians on their 99 volvo v70, tires had about 5000 miles on them and they had serious performance issues, skidding, loosing traction when wet. So bad they had the car towed to the dealer to inspect the brakes (thinking it was a brake issue), but they were told the brakes were fine, at which point they replaced the tires. No issues after tires were replaced. (about 40k since now)
They do make VERY GOOD snow tires. My understanding is that they tried to make a tire that was great in the snow and still OK in the regular and market it as a "all season".... seems to me like it might be ideal to throw on when it gets cold.
The yokohama h4's are great tires. Ive also had goodluck with bfgoodrich compta's and traction ta's. Michelins are OK too, if expensive.
Well, I don't know. I have that tires on my Camry 3 years now no sign giving me problem at all. Very happy with it. It is a all reason tiles, and Winter time me have snow here and the tires perform very good. I drove my Toyota Van with x-ice (winter tire) and I don't see a different. I have Michelin on my CAmry before and I can't even get up the hill.
But of cause if your area have no snow, there is a lot of tires to choose from.
Well, I ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenza G009s. I couldn't find anywhere that had the Yokohamas in stock, and I don't like ordering things like that online. So far I'm happy with my decision. Great grip in the dry; very responsive. I haven't had a chance to drive them in wet conditions because it rarely rains up here (or so I'm told). And they come with a 30 day test drive, so if I don't like them I can just take them back. I'm actually considering having them order a set of H4s, then taking my car back and having them installed to see which I like better. Now I just need to replace my struts and maybe get a bigger sway bar...
