Yep, I'm with you on that. I don't particularly like what Toyota and Honda, at the least that I can recall, are doing with LED taillights -- "a batch of LED points of lights, arranged in a few rows, usually with the turn signal part being non-LED conventional lights." Maybe that wouldn't be so bad with the Camry amber turning lights, but like on the 2006 Accord, it's just kind of insane to see the red "normal light" turn signal along with the red LED stuff.
And, though I'll always prefer an amber turn signal, there are some LED tails that I do kind of like -- like the Cadillac system where the whole LED tail flashes for the turn signal. And, Cadillac (and others) seem to have "more smaller" LED's in their tails, so you get more of a "filled light" look rather than the "bunch of LED dots" like in the Camry and Accord.
All of this said, I really really REALLY don't like anything "altezza" -- where you've got a plastic hunk of tailight lens, but only some part within actually lights up. Things like the Corolla where it's at least red throughout the lens are a bit better, but the true "clear lens with other shapes within" altezza look is just rice-rice-baby to me. No thanks! That pretty much alone makes me really despise a lot of what Nissan and Mazda are doing lately -- bleah!
In the end, I really like the 2007 Camry standard taillight configuration -- good, amber turn signals, which I think are about a thousand times more noticeable than any red turn signals -- and a nice, fully filled-in, attractive shape to the taillight lens. To give up most of that for just a handful of LED dots with the Hybrid tail configuration just really doesn't float my boat....
