18" tire scenario...

I'm trying to figure out if I would be better off with getting an all-season tire or would I be better off getting a peformance-only summer tire and switching back to my factory steelies in the winter. I'm curious what the rest of you do when approaching winter. I guess that would mean I wouldn't have to worry about switching back to my old tires, but would the cost be worth it in the long run?

Scenario

I myself have 18" All Season High Performance for summer and 16" All Season High Performance for winter.(Yokohama Avid H4's). I switch out because I don't want to worry about skidding and messing up my 18s as well as not being as concerned about getting salt, etc on my 16s. If you want 1 wheel/tire for all year around get a 17" wheel/all season high performance. Most "summer" performance tires wears out quick and that's why Im not a big fan of them. Jon.

Summer? or All Season? I don't think one tire can be both. Or are you just saying you use them in the summer but they are all season?

Clarify

I have the Yokohama Avid H4's in both 18" and 16". They are considered High Performance All-Season tires. I use my 18" wheels in the summer time and 16" wheels in the winter time. It's great because I can wait until the first snow fall before having to switch over. Jon.

And when it does they don't salt.

I'd stick with all season anyway, it isn't a Ferrari.

Might wanna go with all season, it says the average snowfall is 9.1" per year. Sounds significant enough. I thought it was a lot hotter down there.

Seems high but I know a lot ot times when it snows it doesn't stay around on the ground. Just melts when it hits because it is warm or at least the ground is.
