Replacing motor mounts

With recent discussion of motor mounts, I finally realized that is the problem with my 93 i4. When in drive and foot on brake the engine lurches up and backwards about 2 inches. Front mount is dead, and dogbone getting over-torqed. Where is a good jack point to support the engine while replacing the front mount? Is this necessary? Does dog bone need to be removed first? Any other pointers? I plan on replacing both and taking a look at the old ones for the polyurethane treatment.

Thanks in advance
Colorado

replace dogbone first .. put car in reverse with foot on brake to
change it .. then replace front mount (part#601114) at autozone
remove front mount bolts .. one bolt must be got from under
mount cause the nut is welded on mount .. use floorjack to lift motor enough to get mount out and new one in .. thats it

What about the rear mount? When in drive with foot on brake, the engine really pulls up in the front and squats in the rear. Maybe I'll have a mechanic change the rear one as it looks like you'd have to pull a lot of suspension stuff to get at it.

thanks

the rear is a pain (#601118) but change the front first and then test rear by putting car in reverse and gunning it alittle
if u feel mount is broke then change rear

Hopefully I'm not too late with advice

When I did the dogbone replacement, I used a 2x4 across the bottom of the tranny and just lightly supported it with my 2ton jack to take the weight of the engine while the dogbone is removed.

I let my buddy with the auto repair shop do the front mount - I was too <bwak, bwak> (that's a chicken sound for the unimaginative ) to attempt it on my own in my laneway

Cheers,

Decided to just let my mechanic do all three. He really thinks it's best since the engine is really jumping around. Good thing is that he's only charging $100 US. I think it's a pretty good deal including the rear mount. Thanks everyone! I'm going to keep the old ones and fill them with polyurethane and see how they come out.

Time for me to change my dog bone as well. It's completely GONE.
