I know there are a million trends on this topic. I have settle on the SE model Camry but not sure if I want the I4 or V6. Initally my mind was set on the I4 but after driving my brother's Maxima with a V6 that has power I am so tempted to get a V6 myself. Being a typical guy Im thinking more power, more power. I dont want to make the wrong decision so I need some advice. Most of my driving will be to another borough which is like 30 minutes away with some local driving. I am not much of a long distance driver. Base on my brief summary what do you guys recommend I get?
I drive both types every day. There are Camrys i drive at work, all with I4. And my own with a V6.
When i bought the Camry i insisted on the V6. And im not sorry. The mileage penalty isnt great, i get 25 mpg in LA traffic - more on long drives. To me it is worth it for the extra power; since i have driven 4 cylinder cars almost my whole life, most of which had sluggish performance. And so i was ready for the extra pick up the V6 gives, and i decided to just live with the slight mileage penalty. Wouldnt trade it for a 4, no way no how!
I used to drive a '97 Nissan Altima SE with an I4... when I had 4 people (or two for that matter) and tried to pick it up on the highway it felt SOOO slow to me. I opted for the V6 and haven't looked back yet. If you are worried about gas mileage and how much gas costs though I probably wouldn't opt for the V6 as it can eat gas with a lead foot (like mine haha). Definitely test drive both, I doubt you'll be disappointed by either.
If you have questions about the '07 SE V6 don't hesitate to shoot me a personal message.

The sluggish you guys keep talking about, would you compare it to a Corolla for those of you who have driven one. When I gas the corolla I do feel a downward shift then it does kick in to high gear and zooms off. There is not much of a mileage difference in the two...
I4
24city
33hiway
V6
22city
31higway
I all im losing is 2 miles each say.
What type of fuels does the Camry take? (Unleaded, Premum etc). I remember reading it somewhere but I cant recall.

I have gotten BETTER gas mileage with my '07 SE V6 than I used to with my '97 Altima SE I4 and the Camry's gas tank is only 3.5 gallons bigger. If I am not mistaken, the owner's manual for my Camry recommends 87 octane (mid-grade) here in Colorado. I definitely could use 85 octane (regular) because the altitude here would offset engine knock, but I don't use it.
Wtih fuel at $3/gal, that's a penalty of about $0.008 a mile. It's an even penny when fuel gets to $4/gal. Maybe an even penny now if like me you tend to baby an I4 and romp on a V6
Though I bought this '07 Camry for my wife but after test-driving the I4 I decided to go for V6. My others are all V6's so I can't afford going back to I4
