Once a month seems a little... excessive to me, maybe every 2-3 months. Just remember... if you take care of the car, it will take care of you (usually this is true). I have never had leather until this car, but I have a professional detailer do my cars every three months which includes wash, wax, polish, claybar, wheel treatment, leather treatment and dash treatment.
If you look on maybe a friends car that is older you might see their leather is cracked and hard and feels like vinyl, that is because they didn't condition the leather correctly and it ended up drying out. A good leather conditioner or saddle soap (I recommend) works great on keeping it from drying out.
