Leather on Camry

I just learnt something new from my neighber down the block who is a mechanic. He said if you want to get leather you will have to take care of it otherwise it will crack. He said you will have to apply some leather product either once a month or once a year? Which one is it? He also said leather will tend to fade from the heat and stuff, but I think that is true for fabric as well. I never had leather in a car before is this true what he said.

Leather seats are nice, wish i had em. They are only leather on the part you sit on, the sides and back are vinyl. So you might need two different products.
But know that some leather care products seem to look good for a minute then dry out the leather. But if you keep it most with megiuers or other good leather product it will last a long time. It helps to keep the car in the shade, use a windsheild visor and keep the leather clean.

Once a month seems a little... excessive to me, maybe every 2-3 months. Just remember... if you take care of the car, it will take care of you (usually this is true). I have never had leather until this car, but I have a professional detailer do my cars every three months which includes wash, wax, polish, claybar, wheel treatment, leather treatment and dash treatment.

If you look on maybe a friends car that is older you might see their leather is cracked and hard and feels like vinyl, that is because they didn't condition the leather correctly and it ended up drying out. A good leather conditioner or saddle soap (I recommend) works great on keeping it from drying out.

I so hate leather. I have it in my '96 and it's a bitch when it's hot out. Stick to them so bad. Buy yeah, use a SEPERATE cleaner AND conditioner for them.

fabric should be cleaned as well but its not as high maintenance, its not like fabric is really going to dry out on you or anything
