4th Generation whaddya guys think of my motor options?

what's up. i'm thinking of a 5sft-e turbo setup for the cam, a 1mz vvt-i setup, a 3mz, or a 2gr. the prices for the burien turbo kit is about 2500 as far as i remember, the 1mz vvt-i between 900-1500, the 3mz 1500-2000, and the 2gr 2200. i will also have to change my auto tranny if i get the 3mz or 2gr to 5spd or 6spd auto ($1500). i pretty much want to spend the least amount of money and also be practical. the turbo kit will need more maintenance than the other options. i'm hoping for a 2gr but i have to keep my options open. thanks.

will you be doing the work yourself? if you're not, you're most likely going to get killed in shop hours for the rewiring needed for most of those swaps

your easiest one right now, since it sounds like you have a 5sfe is the 5sfte

Why not? It has unproven potential...268+hp out of the bag? Not too bad if you ask me.

Of course, the only problem is getting one...you won't be spending 2000...more like 8000+

definitely not, i'll have to have a friend of mine do it at his shop. i'm just trying to keep my options open for now. i don't really care for the 5s-turbo, everyone and their mother has that going on. i've heard of 1mzs turboed, nothing on 3mzs yet but that is all up for grabs. i'm just in love w/ the 2gr but i estimate to get everything done and the cam running right, it'll be around 6000 w/ the 5spd or 6spd auto. there are 2grs for 2000+ w/ low miles but i don't see that happening for now. the car would be in the shop for God knows when and i'll need to rent a car w/in those months of no camry. i don't know, if the 3mz swap cost me 3000 incl. tranny i'll do that. the 1mz to me is nothing special and i'll be working hard to run mid 15s. we'll see how it goes. thanks for the replies.

Lol... and how exactly would you get that to fit and run in your current Camry?!?

Mounts are different, exhaust is different, wiring is completely different.

You'll have to buy/find wiring harnesses, ECU, TCU, etc. I wish you luck - but it doesn't sounds like you know what you are getting yourself into!

-Charlie

PS. There really aren't that many people with turbo 5s motors... everybody talks about it, but very few go through with it.

Your best [reliable] option is to go with a 1mzfe 5 spd swap. Not only has this been done before, but there are plenty of parts and information on hand for such a project. People have also done it here on TN.

Not to mention a 1mz 5spd would be dead sexy =) Tony might be able to help you on turbo options if you have the funds to do that on top of a swap.

5sfte = kabooom. period.

There are ways around it, remapping the microsoft servers, stopping the service, using a firewall. But what I personally do is close my curtains, wrap my computer in tin foil and yell "BRING IT ON" over and over again. -Drunken_panda

that Is All Correct. I Have No Idea What The Heck I'm Getting Myself Into. I Have Limited Funds And Am Trying To Make This Camry Into A High Speed Tourer. I'm Still Gonna Try And Look Around For Modifications To The Cam Until I Get The Gs. Until Then I'm Gonna Keep My Fingers Crossed W/ These Setups. Thanks
