A short shifter reduces the shift distance between gears.
The generic eBay short shifter I bought for my 92 Paseo was about the same height as stock. I hacked some inches off the height and rethreaded for the shift knob.
no...there's no reason not too...especially since they finally came out with one for the e153 camry linkage
I remember ratko's twm shortshifter from a celi....he liked the throw, but it was so short for the camry that it looked just like a knob with no shaft at all

No theres no reason not too, but for that price I would just cut an inch out of the stock shifter and weld it back together. WAM! Short throw shifter. It will be a deff improvement over the stock shifter.

not really a short THROW shifter - just a short shifter hehe
yeah - only negative side on some short throw shifters - is that they can make shifting really tense - but that just kinda depends on the quality of the product
I have a trd SS on the s54 tranny in my camry - and I love it! Alex has a 5s with the stock throw and it is pretty amazing how it went from rowing a boat - to kinda like paddling a boat
if you are gonna toss the short shifter on there - you will really get the most out of the process if you also get some speed-source shifter cable bushings and shifter base bushings... especially on the camry - the rubber bushings get pretty weak, and you end up with lots of shifter play - the speed-source bushings are priced really fair, and will give you the best feeling you can have - to compliment that SS

You see I wanted to mention the bushings but I dont know how that would work out in his car. The bushings might be essential in some way besides reducing vibration. But you can make both bushings yourself using washers and some skateboard bearings. I can link u to a DIY if your interested.

Naw - I work for speed-source now - so I would say buy our bushings first!
I have seen some of the DIY bushings - and even seen knockoffs on customer cars... Didn't feel as good as the ones we make still... not just trying to boast the company - just giving my real expirence

Not to thread jack but its almost similar question. Anyways i've been interested in a short throw shifter for a bit, theamazingnate....will this fit my 04 camry le? It says it only fits the 05 camry/sportivo. I know that the gen 5 compared to the gen 5.5 is quite similar...but why would TWM only list it to fit the 2005 and not the earlier gen5's? Well feedback from anyone is needed as i want to purchase this shifter, but am very weary to do so. THanks

Well - basically just because you have the same tranny code and engine code as other models of your car - you cannot assume that your shifter linkages will be the same - and along with that the shifter assembly might be different also...
I know this from our speed-souce bushings - while there are cars that share the toyota/scion motor/transmission plant - the bushings are not always the same, so we have to sell trim specific models sometimes...
I would say your best bet is to somehow get the shifter base assembly from your car and the 05 cam/sportivo and take some measurements... or take yours apart and make some measurements - and shoot an e-mail to TWM and see if they can give you the specs for the car they used to protoype the shifter
Best of luck amigo

If it makes you feel any better Nate, I have your bushings in my DSM. I need to get your tranny 1's too but first I gotta get a new tranny. (Typical DSM).
