Ok, if you haven't checked allready, I have a gen 3.5 camry and a failing HID set. I want to go ahead and do something like Tony the Tiger did to his headlights. I jsut have a few questions.
1) When i go to a junkyard, I want to try and pull a sed of projections from a car that has them allready. Can projectors be pulled out and placed into my car, or do i have to do a lot of cutting?
2) what are Bi-Xenon systems, is that like a low and high beam inside one bulb?
3) What cars would be the best to get these from and are there any good setups that use a dual projector system like the older ES300s?
4) How easy is it to wire into my current headlight system, my current HIDs are plug-and-play. I just plugged my old wireing into the ballast, adn the HIDs worked. If i can't find projectors, can i get D2R bulbs to work ok in my houseing (i don't care about the how they look, but i'm more worried about them staying in and not falling out.)
Any answers to this would be great with either a reply, or you can find me in #toyotanation on EFnet under the nicks [SMAN] or SMAN-BOT.
I would love any recomendation you can give me! Once i get this project started you better believe i will be posting updates and pictures!

1) You'll need to cut your current set of headlamps to make the projectors fit. I'd buy another set of headlamps so you're not rushed into doing the retrofit.
2) Most bi-Xenon kits work by either have a servo motor to move a shield to expose the light to shoot upwards. Others work by actually moving the bulb so that the focal point is in a position to create the high beam pattern.
3) E46 projectors are easily available. Same with TT projectors, A4/S4. Those are pretty much the best ones out there. I wouldn't do a dual-projector set up as a novice.
4) It'll take a little bit of splicing, but with a wiring harness that includes a relay, it should be fairly easy.

Thanks for the info, I'm still interested in other people's oppinions too and if they have ever attempted anything like this. I've see nheadlights with audi projectors in them and stuff so if anyone else has some more info, please speak up!

the plug and play HIDs that i have are, for the lack of a better word, crap. They were great when i started wout with them, but now, after a year, they color on them is this pinkish purple color and no where near the white purple color they once were, not to mention that they are giving me lots of problems including turning off while driving or turning off then turning right back on and giving a flash of light. plus, when they heat up after abotu 10 mins, the colors don't match. One looks different from the other. I jsut want to do it right and get a nice d2s setup with some projectors to give me better visibility at night. BTW, i came across this,http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33710 can anyone explain what they do and if i'm going to need them?

i retro fitted D2S bulbs to my Gen4 Camry. they are HID's but When u turn them on they stay white and then turn yellow. i posted a tread last week, but what i found out was i need Projectors. SoundLzrd has some 90mm projectors for 65 plus shipping. i am actually getting them and maybe you sould contact him and try them out also. i know im kinda unclear but PM or IM me and we can talk more on the issue.
I also bought plug and play projectors and then bought a Hella HID kit. again im or pm me and ill give u all the info.
I just got some acura integra projectors, Im kinda stumped on how to get them out, should I heat them up in the oven and pull them apart? Or just rip into them with some plyers and a dremel.

Judging by some of your answers like: " Ohh, and what is a E46?" I would say join up any HID forums and use the search button there. Nothing is easy, but then again merits for the hardworker = better lighting output that he can see thru and others can admire. If i were to guss whats wrong with your current system, i'd say someone got you crappy bulbs! but then again, it could be somethign else as well....
Heh that was a while ago when i was such a NOOB to HIDs and stuff. Infact i'm working on my 2nd projector retro which should be done this week. As for the integra projectors, best is to do a bit of both, heat em up in the oven to get the glass off and then anything you can't remove, jsut trim out with a dremel. Integra projectors are ok for stock stuff, but not the best option for adding HIDs to.

Integra projectors are halogen, not HID, you know... You would be much better getting a set of HID projectors that take a D2S bulb (or the valeo H7 and adapters).
As for junkyard's having any HID headlights... if they do you will probably pay out the ass for them. Goto HIDplanet or ebay and find the parts you need.
Don't get halogen projectors and assume they are anywhere near the same thing.
edit: Wow this thread is old as hell.

Most of the time you heat the headlight units in an oven on low heat (200-220F) for around 20min and pull them apart.
