Power lock troubles

Ok, so I got my power windows fixed from my previous post, and I thought the power lock trouble would be fixed at the same time, but its not.
So the problem is... I have the key ON, I press the lock button and the doors unlock. I press it again, and the doors lock and instantly unlock. If I press the button the other way, nothing happens....
With the key OFF, I press the same direction on the lock botton and the doors lock. I press it the other way and nothing happens.

So basically the doors locks only work one way depending on whether the key is on or off. It is the same with both drivers side and passenger side.

Ok... I made a mistake... If the key is OUT of the ignition, it works fine! If the key is IN the ignition it will unlock the door. If I press the lock botton, it will lock, then instantly unlock.

The door power lock system has two power wires going to the console. One power wire is constantly energized (Power fuse); the other is energized by the ignition key (Gauge fuse). The lock system has a key reminder function. If the key is in the ignition and the door is open or ajar, the power locks will unlock, but not lock. They will momentary lock, then unlock. Just the operation you are seeing.

Are the front doors completely closed when you are testing the system?

The front doors each have a switch tied into the door lock console. If both switches are not closed (doors closed) and the key is in the ignition, the door locks will not lock. It is possible a door switch may not be working. A wire might have come off the console or broken wire between the control console and a switch.

The wires going to the door switches are Red/Green (Front Left), Red/White (Front Right). If a 4-door, the rear doors do not have these switches.

I had been testing it with the drivers side door open. After my second post, I went back out because I realized that that may be a safety feature, so I don't lock my keys in the car. So I was working the switch with the door closed. You would think that the doors would be lockable when the car is in gear or even running. Mine still won't lock if the key is in the ignition.
I just replaced 3 of the door switches. They had not been closing, leaving the door open light on.

I have one question though, since you are the only one that answers my posts... Do you know what the function for the wires that go to the handle are? I would think they would trigger a light or something, but I don't notice it when the handle is moved. There are 12 volts to it when the handle is closed.. 0 when open.

The key reminder system works regardless of transmission gear selection. I guess it is possible to jump out the car with the transmission in Park, Netural. Drive.

Are these wires going to the door handle? Inside or outside handle. Drivers or passenger, both? Any wire colors or quanities known. I don’t see anything on the schematic, but?

Ok, I'm starting to get irritated by this thing. Now the doors will Lock, and the key reminder works correctly. But they won't unlock with the switches. There is no power to them, I can't hear the little "click" that happens when you push the botton and its already there. Some other wire must be broke in there.

As for the wire to the door handle. It is the outside door handle, there are two wires. One ground, one is red/black. I can't tell if the passenger side has one, since I do not want to make any more messes with this.

Theres so many different combinations... This thing is so weird.

Key IN /Door open.. Doors unlock pressing back botton (towards rear) Momentarily lock then unlock pressing front botton.
Key in / Door closed. Will lock pressing front botton... Nothing pressing back.
key out/ door closed. will lock.
key out. door open will lock
key ON. door open. will unlock pressing either botton

Dokay... I feel like a idiot... Everyting works now. And I will tell you what the problem was, and why I was getting sooo many different results... You know how you can unlock all the doors when you unlock the drivers side door? Well that switch has gotten loose and activated when I was working on it last night. Its amazing that I found it just now. I would have never thought to check that.

Good catch, diagnosing power lock problems on the go can be difficult.
