3rd Generation R134 Conversion

My A/C died last year on my '93 Camry, so I've been meaning to get it fixed. My mechanic tells me that I may be low on R12 (which he can't refill). I call around and got quotes for recharging ($400) and R134 conversion ($450). I asked my mechanic about R134 conversion and he said he'd do it for $90. He said he'd flush out everything in the system before recharging with R134 but never mentioned anything about replacing a compressor or receiver dryer...

Opinions, anyone?

Check Freezone as a replacement for R12. Requires no conversion and cools much better.

Cheaper than R12.

your going to have to change the dryer because the dessicant in it isnt compatible with 134, and because its age its a good idea anyways
