Question about door handles

I have a 1990 ES250 Great car, but the doors don't open. Took off the door panel, and found the outside handle rod snap clip broken on both. Got the clips from my local Yota dealership, and now can't figure out how to get the clip with the rod into the hole on the door handle. Any tips? I was thinking of asking my next door neighbor if he had some very long needle nose pliers so that I could " Press " it in. Any one have any other ideas. It is such a tight area to be working in and can't get good leverage with my hands to push it in. Thanks in advance for anyone who has a tip. Happy motoring

Been awhile so I may be wrong- but I think you put the clip in the hole, then the rod and then rotate the clip over the rod.

Tried that way, but couldn't get the clip close enough to the hole. The closest I got the clip to the whole was when it was already on the rod. I will fool around with it more only had about 20 minutes yesterday to see if I could do it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Confused and Pissed. Door must be stuck on the striker???

What I ended up doing was taking the clip, and putting it onto a screwdriver, and then putting the screwdriver through the hole while lining up the clip, and then pushing on the butt end of the screwdriver, and it went right in. I have big hands and there was no way of getting in there and installing the new clip.

Now for my drivers door that doesn't open from inside or out I can hear the lock moving, and that rod is intact. The snap clip on the outside door handle is also good. I would have reason to believe that it is stuck on the door striker, and can only think thats my last guess as to what's happening? Anyone have any suggestions as how to get to those screws with a door that doesn't open? What are my options? It's embarrasing to pull up to a gas station, and either slide over to the passenger side, or dukes of Hazard it out the drivers window. Ty in advance for your help

There were recalls on 90 Camry Door Latches, but even though I have the same car in an ES250 would a garage be of help to me with this recall?I normally do all of my own work, but this seems nearly impossible. One good reason to keep your latches lubricated, and free moving. Please if anyone can be of help it would so nice!

Please anybody I'm going nuts!!!

My car is near due for state inspection and wont pass with a door that wont open.
I have done many a search for how to open my door. I took my drivers seat out, and pulled as much of the door panel aside, but everytime I stuck a screw driver in I couldn't get to the lock. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!! If you have pics all the better!!!!I will love you for life. Im guessing it's the spring that always breaks. I know that the lock is either frozen onto the striker, or something, but the outside or inside handle don't seem to open the door as it should.

Short of jimmying it from the inside like you are doing, I can't think of anything. I don't think it will help but here is a link to a drawing of a Camry door:
<http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d801407a0.jsp>

As you mentioned there was a recall on 90 Camrys. Recall # 92V135000 The electronic control unit (ECU) for the power door lock system can fail, causing the contacts to "weld", and resulting in door lock solenoid damage, with failure of the door to lock or unlock, even under manual operation.

If you have removed the door panel from the inside just keep trying to work the latch. Maybe go in the passenger side again and practice how to do it from there and then try again from the driver side.

Luck,
