Gen5 Noise in rear - TSB - New struts

When I got my 06 Camry LE in Jan 06 I noticed a noise in the rear when going over certain "bumps".
At 5000 miles I took it in for an oil change and had the dealer look at it. Of course they couldn't find a problem. I still had the noise and today I took it in for the 10000 mile oil change and told them it was still there, they now tell me there is a TSB out on it requiring the rear struts and upper supports to be replaced.
Two questions:

1) Why does it always take multiple trips to a dealer before they fix a problem?

2) Need I worry about the replacement regarding the rear aligment or anything else that for that matter?

So far I am VERY pleased with the car.

Thanks

Tony

o0o lol i thought you meant you changed it every 10,000 miles after you did one 5000 interval. Just curious but how dirty does the oil look at every 5000 miles? I ask because i change mine at 3000 and never saw how dirty it gets at 5000.

Well...at the risk of "opening a can of worms" let me say that I don't see any reason for most people to do it more often than every 5000 miles.
I can't comment on how dirty it is as I have never seen the oil being drained on this car, the dealer does the change, not me. I had a Honda Accord (1992) and when I sold it, at 9 years old, it had over 207,000 miles on it. I changed the oil on that car every 5000.
The last few oil changes showed no real oil usage at the time of change (the level was right where it was suppose to be).
According to the Toyota owners manual, Consumers Reports, and more importantly Click and Clack the tappit brothers (Cartalk) 5000 miles is just fine.

I was never saying you were wrong to change it at 5000 miles. I just was curious on how dirty it is because mine looks pretty dirty at 3000.

I dopubt it will harm your alignment. And dealers are just flat out lazy.

Oil is suppose to lok dirty, no matter what. The only way to really tell is by taking it to be analyzed. If the oil looked blue, milky or really thin, thats a different story.

No, replacement of the rear struts will not change your alignment. If they had to replace the front struts, that would affect your alignment.
