3rd Generation Transmission problem? Need your help!

Almost every time after a relative long time driving on high way, if I make a stop for gas or food and reaccelerate it, it takes long time to accelerate, even push the gas pedal hardly. The transmission seems slippery in the low gear, 1 to 2 or 2 to 3. But once it shifts to gear 4, it can keep the high speed very well. After the car is cooled down, it can accelerates very well.

It is a 96 Camry 4 cylinder with 120K and auto transmission. I have flushed the transmission, it is smoother than before, but there is no big difference on this problem. I am thinking if I need add a transmission cooler on it. What’s your opinion on the solution? Any input will be appreciated.

Well could it actually be an engine problem, or are you sure it is the transmission? the mileage on this car is fairly low to have a worn out transmission, so there may be any number of things causing the problem. I would take it to a transmission shop and see what they think.

Thanks for reply. When push the gas pedal, the tachometer rise high, but the car acceleration is bad after drving for long time. That is why I think it is a transmission peoblem.

Check your fluid level first. if it is OK (Check hot and cold levels)

I would have the trans fluid changed again and see if that improves. New fluid is not heat stressed yet.

If you find that this helps, then put a cooler onto the system.

No offense, Hajoca but i've never heard of such a phenomenon. Could you explain what this is?

Worn fluid (degrades from heat) will slip due to the reduced action of the friction modifiers to let the wet clutch materials have a grab. Check out how trans fluid and heat http://www.niehoff.com/techtips/trans.html
