holy cow mine cost like $7 with all the supplies and i have a three-way switch that either has it off, on, or on w/ doors open. but i used cathodes not LEDs since LEDs are a tiny light source and shadowing is terrible.

very true, go down to autozone or your local rice store and buy some neon tubes (the 9in twin pack will probly work best) and go to town

i have a 3-position horizontal rocker switch on my center console. middle position is off, left position is door/dome light activated, and right position is constant on.
wiring is pretty simple for the constant on, i just used the power wires behind the cig lighter.
the dome light wiring was used along with a relay (didn't want to tax that single dome light wire) again with the power coming from the cig lighter.

I'm planning on doing that in the fall... bypass the wires so that it lights up when the doors are open... and yes cold cathodes are the way to go
