hey guys, i'm doing a suspension rework and i have a question about springs. everyone on this forum says to put eibach lowering springs on my camry. i (will soon) have 205/55/16 kumho ecsta mx tires on 16"x6" 2001 toyota camry xle v6 rims with tokico HP blue struts. the rims fit the camry very well, but i'm scared about lowering it with eibach springs. i know a lot of you guys are into making your camry very personal, and i want to retain mine as close to stock as possible, yet making it a good-handling car. i'm just worried that the lowering of the eibach springs of 1.2 inches will be too much and my camry will end up looking like a "ricer" car. i'm not crazy about that look at all, but want my camry to handle very well and am afraid that the stock kyb springs will result in a soft ride. i dont want a ride that is a gokart (much like my friend's vw gti with koni adjustables and strut towers and sways all over). my friend with an acura tl tells me that stock springs will be okay. i just dont want my car to scrape the ground when driving around and over speed bumps (i live in atlanta, and the roads there are bad enough already), but i am torn between the two. my supsension right now is so floaty you might as well be in the mid-atlantic on a cruiser. should i sacrificie performance and get kyb struts to maintain a stock ride height? or should i go ahead with the eibach springs and lower it 1.2 inches overall? like i said, i'm putting tokico HP blues on soon (i just have to make these final decisions before i order everything) and want to make sure i do it all right. i'm also looking at putting in a whiteline rear sway bar, but that will go in regardless of the choice of springs. the question i am asking is, will the drop in suspension be so significant that it causes my car to scrape over speedbumps and steep entrances? or is it minimal, like having an extra passenger or two? thanks so much for your input, as i have been considering the two for a while and have yet to come to a decision.
1.2" is not that much of a drop. I have Teins and they drop 1.7 in the front and 1.5 in the rear, and it only makes the car look better. With 1.2", you won't look like a "ricer car".

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

I thought you had decided to stick with stock springs? Your car does not need to be lowered. I've tried telling you that with 137k miles the Camry's suspension is just skeletal remains. From the factory, while softer than the Accord, it was a firm car. Sway bars and Tokico HPs are more than enough to give you the handling you want (Remember my Accord?) without sacrificing ride height or quality.
Hey, White chocalate, by looking at your car domain, i kown you have 17's. If you were to do a 2'' eibach drop how would your clearence between your tires and wheel well be?

You'd still have plenty of clearance. What people tend to forget when it comes to wheels and tires is that as you move up in wheel size, you compensate for that increase by getting smaller tires (sidewall). Therefore, your wheels and tires are still almost identical to stock in overall size. So by dropping it 2", you'd still have plenty of clearance. But you'd need a v6 for the 2" drop, which I'm assuming you have. Otherwise, you'd only get 1.4 in the front, and 1.1 in the back. majorgercko1 lives near me, and he's dropped 2" on 18s, and he's got plenty of wheel clearance as well.

I got Eibach 1" sptings on KYB Struts and a TRD Rear Sway bar on my '96 XLE V6. Looks wise, people do not even believe me when I tell them the car is lowered. Hendling wise, BIG difference. Much bettwer in the corners.

I am planning to get the eibach also when it comes out for the new camry. I heard so many horror stories about dropping your car and killing the ride. If this is true, I will NOT drop the car. I want that sporty look, smooooth ride and good handling. Also i may upgrade the wheels to 18. My question is will i feel a significant degradation in ride quality. Thanks in advance.
my mom has an 07 camry, and her suspension is not soft, but it's not firm either. it's a lot firmer than my camry was from the factory, though, and i have a gen4. i still haven't decided about the springs yet, but if i do put them on i will let you know what the results are like
