Why not to let a shop do it. Especially in L.a., Ca. Jiffy lube? Ha ha ha - Tards in charge - Work charged for, paid for but not done.
This clip is about 5 or 10 minutes long. http://www.nbc4.tv/video/9152183/detail.html
Real case history: 90 Camry V-6, after oil change and air filter change in fast lube place in Cypress, CA :
Air filter element is installed backwards- running rich, black smoke.
Missing gasket on the drain plug- oil dripping.
Fixed his problems and suggested to file a complaint with BBB.
That's a great story. But the problem with people changing their own vehicle fluids is that they usually don't dispose of them properly. Remember, it is illegal to dispose of used motor oil improperly. Dumping dirty motor oil into the sewer system or into a whole in the ground is not responsible and only killing the environment faster. Find a local quick-lube place that will accept your dirty oil at no charge.
Those types of shops are springing up everywhere. And these particular ones do business adds the lore that mechanics are out there to scam you.
If you don't have the time, it's best try to find someone reputable.
Convcert, name brand autoparts stores also take your oil so there's no need to get near a quicklube shop.

After my water pump locked up, I had no real choice but to go an Autopro shop here. They tried to make me buy an engine head, insisting my valves were bent. After much argument they got it fixed but still the car was running like shit so I took it down to my regular guy downtown. Turns out the timing was off and the belt was flapping in there like crazy because of the tensioner. Wow. Never again.

Thats why I always stand there and watch them do the work, I have stopped them from putting in the wrong oil, the wrong oil filter, see them never check my brakes, watch them align my car and give me somebody elses paper work...
I'm Annoying at a shop, but i mechanics are human and if they are like me they forget things, so i stand there to ensure that they don't!

I have seen some people, just leave the used oil containers at the jiffylube before they open for the day. It beats dumping it in the trash i guess.
I needed an oil change real bad one day back in 1995 on my then new Jetta, so I decided to take the car to a Jiffy Lube. It was the biggest mistake That I have ever made. They put the new oil filter on with a double gasket (meaning they did not get the old filter off) and when I returned with an oil leak they tried to tell me it was coming from the oil pan. I would not settle for that and made them pull off the filter and replace it with a new one. It fixed the problem....They would not even reimburse me for the oil I had to purchase to get the car to the shop, but they offered to fill my container with more oil. I have not let another person change my oil since then, well I work for a Toyota dealership and would probably let them change it since I know all the guys.
