The TRD steering wheel falls under three Applications: A, B, and C. The one I bought was application C, which fits the new Celica, amongst others. The Camry is not on the application list - maybe because the wheel is only for the JDM market.
The electronics for the airbag is carried by two wires. The two wires from the steering column is connected to the two wires on the airbag by a clip type harness. My original thought was that the difference between the applications was this harness, and since the Camry is not listed, I bought mine on the assumption that splicing in the wires would be sufficient.
Sure enough, that's what I did. I cut off the two incompatible harnesses, and spliced the wires together.
However, when I took the car to the dealership to reset the light, it wouldn't reset. The error message said "communication timeout", i.e. the airbag computer somehow not able to communicate with the airbag, and hence will not reset.
This could mean a number of things:
1. The airbag is right for my car, I just wired it up wrong (i.e. switch the wires), or
2. The airbag is right for my car, I have a bad airbag computer (possible but unlikely), or
3. The airbag is wrong for my my car, I have to go with application A or B, or
4. The airbag is wrong for my car, regardless of application A, B, or C.
The whole thing hinges on the answer to this question: is the shape of the harness the only difference between the applications? I speculated (perhaps wrongly, only time and more experimentation will tell) that the only thing in the airbag assembly is a simply acutuator which inflates the airbag upon receiving the signal from the airbag computer. Hence, incompatible harnesses is not a big issue. Anyone care to make an educated guess on this?

Joe: They were from InitalK. Don't have a link for you though.
PJ: These are indiglo gauge overlays - i.e. they sit on top of the stock ones. The temp fuel gauges are provided as well but I only put in the middle ones. That's why you see the stock lights on those and the middle ones are indiglo.

Got it in Hong Kong for a bit less than $500US, or a bit more than $700CDN. Before everyone jumps on the bandwagon, am I the only one who thinks that not being able to gett the airbag working defeats the whole purpose of getting that wheel??? :???:

No you can't. It's just too bad that you "fly airplane" on Sunday.
What's with "ElegantCam"? New alias?? I have a new one too. My GF gave me this after watching some Initial D with me. How is "Buck Yerk Yut Ling"?? You know, like Takume's (sp?) "Chow Ming Bart Look"?

Jeff: please post some of the new photo of all the goodie of your car with the TRD steering wheel...
Next, I think LUC is definitely the guy you need to talk to, email him some diagram and he can give you the answer or tell you the ugly truth (you might got the wrong bag)...but again, he is E.E and he installed almost every elect. related items on his car, my car and Mao's sleeper...
Next, who want this TRD steering wheel? My brother is in HK right now and I am talking orders...if Jeff said it cost $500 US, I am sure I will charge $100 more (shipping and handling) over the $500.00, but again, you can only get that in HK or Japan or some where in CA...
Again, I used to have one like this 6 years ago, exact same wheel but no air-bag on my ES300...
Jeff, I think the last thing you have to do.........a pair of Sparco or Ricaro BLUE racing seats (front) and somehow figure out what to do with the back seats (gray doesn't match with what you got right now...)
