3rd Generation dispose used transmission fuid

Hi,

I just changed my transmission fluid for the first time. I am wondering what is the proper way to dispose the used fluid. Can I just take it to lube shop, like Jiffy's Lube or maybe Autozone takes it? I assume that throwing it to the dumpster is as harmful as dumping motor oil.

Some towns have a tank in the DPW yard for disposal of oil and tranny fluid. You might want to check that out.

Autozone or Advance should take any used motor oil or tranny fluid you bring there. The only thing they ask is that you dont bring more than 5 gallons at a time.

Autozone didn't take it! Not because the tank was full of something: they don't take it at all. I dropped it off at Jiffy Lube.

That's strange... Every AZ or Advance in my area takes them. Maybe some law/ordinance around Atlanta, I dunno.

Exclamation

FWIW,

I've lived in CA, TX, and CO in the past 14 years. In all of those states, it was/is OK to dispose of used ATF in the same containers that used engine oil is stored in. In other words, it is OK to mix used ATF with used engine oil in these states.
