2nd Generation JDM headlights on eBay

hey Gen 2 folks.

Check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-246...QQcmdZViewItem

JDM gen 2 one piece headlights, never seen them before. It's for a 92 model but that's a Gen 3 and these look Gen 2.

Thats *not* gen 2 lights a SV32 is a JDM gen3 Camry somewhat strange looking
compared to the gen3 that we are used to, this came both with 4WS and 4WD and
came with the 3S-FE, 4S-FE, 3S-GE and 2C-T engines, so unless you get the front
of the car you wont be able to use these lights, and nor are they legal due to the
fact that these lights are made for left driving countries like japan, china ect..

SV32 Camry front

Sv32 Camry rear

thats true for reflector based lights... however, there are differences between LHD and RHD for projector based lights. the shield must be flipped to convert from LHD to RHD, otherwise you will blind oncoming drivers.

Your both wrong There are 2 kinds of reflector lights: Symmetrical and asymmetrical ones.
JDM/ADM cars have ASYMMETRICAL lights while USDM cars have SYMMETRICAL lights

The DEPO light you bought from the America are symmetrical lights and can be used in both
LHD and RHD countries without any adjustment since the light pattern doesn't tilt to either left or right like a asymmetrical lights would do.

Here you have asymmetrical headlights see how they tilt to the right? If you where to drive in Australia with these lights you would blind everyone from Sidney to Mars. however if you mirrored this image you would get the lightpattern of an aussie/japp car with asymmetrical headlights

Here you have symmetrical headlight, as you see it doesnt tilt to either side thus they
cant blind oncomming drivers in RHD countries. Thats why an american can import a old Austin Mini without needing a headlight convertion since these cars have symmetrical lights.

Bottom line is that asymmetrical lights are LHD and RHD spesiffic and symetrical lights are not. Thats what im talking about.

the euro headlight pattern looks more like a projector based headlight... sharp cutoff resulting from a shield. like i mentioned before you can flip the shield to convert from LHD to RHD or RHD to LHD. i have never seen a reflector based headlight have that kind of cutoff.

The trick of the sharp cutoff in JDM reflector lights is in the glass and the bulb it uses (H4) the reflector in the JDM headlights are very simple so its the glass and bulb that does the job directing the lightbeam, so the only diffrence between the EDM and the JDM/ADM asymmetrical reflector lights is the glass. So the SV32 headlights on Ebay makes a mirrored version of the beampattern of the Euro headlights, but yeah reflector lights can have such a sharp cutoff, the beampattern seen on the Euro picture is comea from my gen2 camry.

i see... thats pretty amazing for just some simple glass. kinda interesting to know how they achieve that kind of cutoff through only glass

no really?!? shit, i didn't know that

if you had actually read the thread, i was commenting on how that sharp cutoff was achieved through the glass of a REFLECTOR headlight.

think before you post
