brakes overheat

I took a 04 Camry for a drive test before buying it...about 15 miles, highway and around the block to hit "consistently" the brakes. The front wheels were overheated, about 240 F compared to 140 in the rear. Is this the normal way it works, or it's a problem with the car? Quick answers appreciated!

Bob! I don't see a problem with that, but I've never taken the temp of my brakes before! I did have a rear caliper go bad on the 3.5 gen coupe, and it got so hot I couldn't touch my wheel....I was wondering for 11 miles who was slipping there clutch so much, I could smell it.But it was the smoke behind me that clued me in to what was going on.....So if it isn't smokin or smellin..don't worry about it!.....as long as its stoppin!

That sounds normal to me. The front brakes do most of the stopping and therefore generate the most heat. That's also why the front rotors are the most likely ones to warp. I wouldn't be overly concerned.

I took my GEN3 for a downhill sprint, lots of slow corners and fast straights, I had no brake fade or any problems, but boy were the fronts smokin!!!

If you are experiencing brake fade (pushing the pedal alot harder than usual to achieve same braking power after some heavy braking) it may pay to get your pads replaced and your brake fluid properly bled, even replaced.

If you are really worried, go Brembo drilled rotors and 4 piston calipers!!! hehe
