4th Generation A slightly different turn signal problem

Ok first of all I would like to say I searched through many threads of turn signal problems, 99% being dead bulbs. But if you remember my older threads I got in an accident that shattered my front left turn signal and fender/bumper dmg. Ok so right now my car is in the shop getting my new fender, bumper, and spoiler painted and spoiler installed. I should have my car back by friday. But onto the turn signal problem.

The left turn signal like in all the other threads blinks/clicks extremely fast and from an outside view the front bulb doesnt blink at all and the back does, but fast. Now I have already bought and got a new turn signal unit. I first replaced the front bulb with a new bulb and no change. Then I used the new unit's bulb as well as connector and it still wouldnt blink properly. And hazards work fine... Now when I lock the car the light blinks. So that leaves me a bit confused.

Any ideas? fuses? wiring? I will try some more things when I get my car back on friday. Ohh and to clarify there was no problem with the turn signal or bulbs prior to the accident. So I pretty much am going to try your guy's solutions to see if I can fix it myself or possibly have to take it in :/

edit: Ill also try to see if it works with headlights on later too since ive seen that circumstances in some of the threads.

Also I will check to see the brake lights as ive seen that was indactor or something for a brake light being out... though im pretty sure my brake lights are fine.

When it blinks fast thats the car telling you that one of the bulbs is dead. Or you got one bulb that isn't specified for the car. They do it by resistance. If there is no or not enough resistance the car will think the bulb is dead and make the light blink very fast.

After an accident I suspect wiring problems. Get your VOM out and start tracing the circuits. When one accessory affects another one I tend to focus on the ground wires first. I say this because you mention that when the doors are locked that the blinker works.

If you mean that the blinker comes on when you lock the door and the blinker switch is off you have bigger problems. I might just learn to use the lock button instead of the blinker!

Good luck,
Kep

ok solved it while i was trying to bend a bracket a bit. I decided to unhook the wires to avoid catching them. And what do u know the lights work fine. So I clip them back in and it still works. Wires must have been squished or something even though they looked fine

Squished wires don't make the lights blink faster. Check the insulation to make sure that it wasn't grounding and shorting.

If that's ok, it may have been the wires weren't propperly connected previously
