Contact Tercel GTS about your problem. He is a starter guru.

Kinda odd the new one does what a worn out one would.

If you are hearing just 1 click each time you turn the key, the problem is still within the starter solenoid contacts. I have seen "rebuilt" parts fail right out of the box. If you are hearing multiple clicks when you try to start the car, the problem is a weak battery for whatever reason (bad battery, bad alernator or a loose alternator belt), or loose or corroded cable connections at the battery or at the starter itself.

Clicking once when you turn the key usually means bad contacts in the starter. Was this a "new" starter or one from a junk yard? If it's a used one then change out the contacts. There are several good forum posts on this with excellent instructions and pictures. If this is a new starter from Toyota you may want to take it back for a good one.

Repeated clicks when you turn the key once (I beleive) means low power. Make sure your battery is good. Try another.

If you tap on the starter (lightly with a ratchet handle or hammer handle) and it works that is another indication that the main contacts are failing. If this works you may be able to do this off and on for several months before it doesn't work at all.

Check you battery voltage: 12.6 is 100%, 12.2 50%, 11.9 dead. Could be bad battery cables or connections. Check at the battery terminals, starter and ground.

As previously posted it is possible to get a rebuilt starter that has a problem.

it works now. im not sure why though. well i noticed that my #80 fuse on my red battery cable blew. It's for the alternator. I still have that blown fuse in my car i just connected the two pieces. I'm not sure if that #80 fuse can be removed its not easy to get out.
