well, as most of you know, i bought this 92 SE last year, wiped out in the front. after i straightened her out enough, i bolted the new fender, hood, headlight, corner light, and of course, the new bumber support. i managed to salvage the bumper cover, which rests on the car now, only to be removed before i paint the car. well, turns out the clutch was toast. i had started on the removal of the trans before winter. i waited until this summer to drop the trans and change the clutch. i had some problems with teh right cv, but finally managed to get it all apart. today's job is to put in the new power steeering pump(old one was whining like a dog in heat), change the rear main seal and oil pan gasket. here's what i got pics of so far. nothing special, just a few filthy pics of a smoked clutch and a greasy trans and filthy car.
and finally, a before pic of the car. just to keep spirits up!
i had to use vice grips to hold the pressure lines on the power steering pump. luckily for us camry owners, toyota uses a neat little line. where the metal joins the rubber, there is a square to "hold" while removing or installing the lines. it worked perfect for holding the line while i spun it out of the pump!
i'm finishing the 12A. i was leaking everywhere from every gasket, lol. i pulled the engine years ago and i finally have the time to work on it. though, i dont have a doner car to put it in....once it's all cleaned and put back together, i'll store it on the shelf to be put in another rx-7. 13B's are hard to come by where i live. i rarely buy rotary engines from a boneyard. i'll buy the whole car. if the engine is toast, i'll dissassemble it, keep what i need and sell the rest to someone who needs those parts. i just need to start building up a stock of camry parts. i should just go buy a parts car!
i will have more pics posted once the trans is going in. replaced the rear main seal yesterday, as well as the seal on the oil pan. next will be the output shaft seals and the new power steering pump should go in today.
the aluminum actually didnt start corroding until i was pulling things apart. its really strange though. it seems like its calcified. i'm not sure if something got on it or what. i plan on cleaning it off completely before reassembly. i am going to clean it before i install the new outputshaft seals.
