clutches

well i dont need one just yet. but i am wanting to plan ahead and set some money aside. what clutches are offered that are a step above just a regular OEM clutch. but nothing hardcore. i dont plan on ever having much power. maybe intake, header, exhaust. thats most likely it. and suspension junk .. im a junkie when it comes to suspension. it has to be set up good or im not a happy camper.

so yeah .. what clutches is everyone running?

The stock clutch is pretty good, good for most mods i should think. I think when you go for a stronger clutch that means stiffer springs in the pressure plate - which might affect foot pressure at the clutch pedal. In other words, install the wrong clutch plate and you now own a 2500 pound exercise machine for your left leg.

Most of the low-end upgraded clutches aren't much of an exercise for your left leg... ACT, Exedy and Spec all make good clutch kits. You'll want a 'stage 1' or 'street' or similar kit. I believe kits that fit a 5s-fe car also fit the 3s-fe Camry.

(I have a Spec Stage 2 for an MR2 on my swap - which can handle around 400ft-lbs of torque and its not much stiffer than stock)

so just a small step above stock? cool. yeah about the pressure .. im not afraid. i used to have a mustang or two with heavy duty clutches and pressure plates. and i had to just get used to it, or else i didnt get to drive my car. so i actually want a little extra pressure because this pansy ass clutch is throwing me off its so lightweight. dont get me wrong, its a nice change, but still, for better driving habits i would like it a little stiffer.

Cross reference the part numbers for ACT or some other manufacturer. You should be able to tell what parts cross over to the 3s-fe from the 5s-fe or other car. (well, actually its the tranny that matters - and both the 5s-fe and 3s-fe Camrys use the same transmission, pretty much)

Oh, and when I said the pedal pressure was about the same, I was from memory - it has been over 8 months since I felt the stock Camry pedal.
