high pitch sound, help. Thx

I heard some high pitch sound when I make some turn. The brake was not pressed and it doesn't happen all the time. Could it be front brake pad wear sensor reminding me of replacing the brake pad, or CV joint, or anything else?

It's Toyota Camry XLE 2.2.

thanks for your advice.

Loose power steering belt, oil or water on the pulley will make squealing noise. With the car stationary, idling in neutral, turn the steering wheel. If belt is loose, it will make noise.

Question

I'm having the same problem except it doesn't happen when I turn the steering wheel. I too
hear a high pitch sound. But this one of the belts or pullies. Anyway to isolate this? There are 3 belts and a few pullies with bearing. One thing I notice is when I step on the gas pedal, it will make that noise. Not a whole lot but its there and its annoying. Car is a 98 LE 4 cylinder with 135K mi. Thanks.

I would check your brakes. It sounds like it's the warning sensor from brakes.

Brake warning sensor will make sound even in straight ahead position noticeable at float/coasting. High pitch sound at acceleration is caused by glazed belt/pulley. Spray belts with LPS belt dressing one-by-one, until sound changes. Sometimes removing and installing bet to the opposite direction of its rotation can solve the noise issue

I want to be more specific about the problem:

1. I checked the brake pad and they have a lot left and the wear sensor(the metal clip) is not touching anything or bent over. So I can rule out that it was caused by brake pads.

2. When the car is stationary, if I steer my wheel to any direction, no sound at all. Actually this high pitch noise happens very few time(sometimes for a whole trip of 20 miles it doesn't happen at all). I should say only 4-5 times every week but still you will feel annoyed by any unusal noise.

3. It happened to both steering directions during driving.

What can be wrong??

I agree with Doctor J. Check the tension on the power steering belt.
