Ignition Coil

Hey guys, I'm trying to remove the ignition coil on my 93 4 cylinder. I removed the two screws from underneath, but it's still stuck, are there more screws or is it locked in somehow? I'd prefer not to pull the distributor.

Thanks,

Vic

Just realized that there are 4 screws for the coil, the back two are nearly impossible to get at unless you pull the distributor. I took out the two bolts holding the distributor to the head, but it won't come out, any suggestions?

Thanks again,

Vic

pull harder i guess. the 2 bolts should be the only thing holding it in. but make sure you mark how the distributor relates to the head other wise youll have to re time the engine with a timing light.

yeah, what bakawill said. once the distributor breaks loose, it should easily slip out. replace the o-ring while youre at it!

Like everyone says, mark the position of your distributor body so you can replace it in the same orientation (mine happened to be exactly the width of an allen wrench in the adjustment groove. ). Make a note of which direction the rotor is pointing (if you forget, you have a 50% chance to be off by 180 degrees). Now, gently twist the body of the distributor like you were adjusting the timing. Once it rotates you should be able to wiggle it out. The only thing holding it in is an o-ring. The o-rings get brittle. It would be best to buy a replacement (I think about $10). If you decide not to watch for oil on the top of your transmission for a few weeks afterwards.

Watch out for the sensors nearby. They break if you happen to put any force on their plastic tops.
