Hey guys, first upgrade for me is the CD deck(and eventually something big and loud in the trunk) Is there any information about pulling out that crappy tape deck, and putting in a CD deck...Thanks

Oh ya, on that topic, I picked up my 90 CamryLE I4 with 5spd...fun car...spent all yesterday running up and down the hills around hamilton(a lot nicer than my Ford Tempo) The stock stereo is very disapointing, and I have at least 2 speakers(the rear ones) that have to go ASAP other than the crappy stereo, It's great, and not too bad on gas either, which was a major reason for picking it up.

KOOOL...nice meeting ya....i got the same thing as you do...i got a 1990 Camry DX w/ Auto I4.... and i just change the WHOLE sound system of my car....it's REALLY easy to take the deck out.... but i recommand you to go some good audio shop to install the new system of yours.... cuz in my experience...they have to cut some lines and install something into the new system.... i got a Pioneer DEH-8000R.... but how come you only got 2 speakers @ the back? suppose to be 4.....two @ the front also.... check it out.... hope i could help...

I have 4 speakers, just too cheap to put some in the front right now, and they sound ok...rather put a little extra cash into the deck than into the speakers in the front. I'm probably going to lay wire for subs (so that in the future, it's easier) while it's apart.
On the wiring, all that's needed is the right adapter, which isn't a problem

Yup. Metra makes a wiring harness for Toyota's and they also make a pocket that goes below the deck to fill in the empty space.

1. Remove the cigarette lighter and ashtray.

2. Remove the 2 screws at the top of plastic trim that goes around the deck and ac/heater controls.

3. Carefully remove the plastic trim. Theres 4 clips holding it on.

4. Unplug any plugs that you see.

5. Remove the 4 screws holding in the deck.

6. Slide the deck out and unplug the 2 plugs from the back of the deck.

7. Install your new deck and put everything back together.

The plastic trim needs to be modified for the metal sleeve (the one that comes with your deck) to slide in.
