Canada camry turboing

i was reading one of the posts on here and i was going to ask some question. i was reading about the 5sgte and the 5sfte ugrade that can be done and it said that you need a bar 2 or 2 bar map sensor. i was wondering it that map could be replaced with a air fuel controller, if so what do i need to get to do it

also do i need a waste gate, blow off or pop off valve, if so can somone explain to me how they work or what their function is . i'm just new at this turbo upg thing and i want to know about these items in question.

oh yeah were talking about gen 3 jut FYI

No, the map sensor reads boost (and airflow) the Air fuel controller sets up fuel for the extra air. You would need both.

Yes you need a wastegate and blow-off valve.

A BOV Opens when the pressure between the compressor side of the turbo and the intake manifold changes due to the closing of the intake (aka you letting off the gas). Its purpose is to prevent backpressure fromhitting the turbine blades and damaging the turbocharger.

The wastegate prevents overboosting. If for example you were going to turbo with the CT26 like most people here do, the stock wastegate setting (CT26 has an internal wastegate) is 7psi. At 7 psi the wastegate opens and vents excess boost to prevent overboosting and damaging your engine.

I would suggest reading up a bit more, since it'll be very hard to turbo with your current level of knowledge, and no one wants a blown engine.

Canada

well i do have a good knowledge of the turbo aspect and that i just didnt' know about some things like that

what i'm looking at doing to to get another engine from the junk yard 5sfe with a good blok and then rebuild it using mr2 pistons (to lower the compression and allow for more boost. i have guy that i can go to for help if i get stuck. that was just personal question that i had i like to know why or what it's purpose is ( if you know what i mean)

another question that i had was the ge head has 2 cogs on the end . one for each cam

the fe head has 1 cog and a transfer in side the head

what is the difference in performace.

Fe has better low end but less top end, plus you can't really adjust your cam timing on the FE, where as adjustable cam gears are available for the GE head. On a side note, the GE head won't fit late model 5SFE's.

Also the 5SFE doesn't have that high a compression ratio to begin with, IIRC its only 8.5:1. If you are planning for big boost though you'll need a lot more than just MR2 pistons.

You can get LC pistons for the 5s anyway, plus they are forged.

Bore on a 5S is slightly larger then a 3S. So pistons from a 3S-GTE (MR2 Turbo) will not work on a 5S.

Its not a problem though as you can buy pistons and rods for a 5S.

G head has wider valve angle (45 degrees) vs. F head (22 degrees).

Ports on G head are bigger.

the MR2 NA uses the 5SFE, the same engine in your camry.
