V-6 exhaust piping...

I was just wondering what is thought to be the best size exhaust for the camry/solara/avalon V-6? For example, my Celica's 5s-fe 2.25 piping was best for keeping some torque with better flow. Thanks.

Thanks. Would the TRD supercharger count as boost?

What size is the stock piping? I seem to remember someone saying it was 2.25" If that is the case, would I get any gains from just a muffler? Or are the bends different so that I would be better off getting custom exhaust?

So...if I were to "drop-in" the camry's V-6 into my celica (50-state emissions legal, so I could register my car whereever I go) with custom exhaust. What would the ideal size pipe be for...say..dual exhaust (pipe coming straight off each header)...perhaps 2" per side...or would that kill a bunch of torque (half the point of using the V-6 as opposed to the 3s-gte)?

2 inches would be fine for true dual exhaust. just any bigger you may loose back pressure and torque.

Talking Dual Exhaust?

So... what is a true dual exhaust? And 2 inches would be fine right? meaning it would increase a lil bit in performance? Hmm... er... sorry but what does back pressure do!? Sorry for the noobiness...

True dual exhaust is when you have 1 pipe coming from each manifold and those 2 pipes remain separate throughout the exhaust system.

Fake is where you split 1 pipe into 2.

Back pres. creates turbulence in the combustion chamber. (Correct me if I'm wrong fellas.)

No such thing as too big a pipe if you're boosting (esp turbo). The compressor will keep new air/fuel flowing into the cylinder and doesn't need the backpressure wave to evacuate the cylinder after the power stroke.

Back pressure doesn't create turbulance in the chamber. Backpressure is necessary for making torque because the exhaust pulese are tuned via the length of each individual exhaust runner before it reaches the collector pipe. This tuning is done to prevent the exhaust pressure wave from smashing into another pressure wave at the collector pipe which would cause power loss and a bonus is that every pressure wave creates a low pressure zone behind it which helps pull along the exhaust gas behind it which helps evacuate the cylinders more efficiently, thereby gaining more power. The problem with too large an exhaust on an NA engine is that you lose the low pressure zone behind each exhaust pulse making the engine work harder to exhaust itself.

Did that make sense? Funny how things that seemed so clear in highschool are now hard to explain

Someone has done this. I forgot his name though. Maybe if you look up 1mz-fe celica in the archives you'll come up with something.
