water in engine thur CAI

I want to install a CAI into my 97 camry but hear a few stories. That when it rains water will get into the system thur the cai and kill ur engine. I want to know if this is true i myself don't think this is true but i rather ask poeple here before doing it.

PS what are good CAI for a 97 camry

i've gone through some pretty deep stuff with mine, i do have an alternate intake nearer the pleanum, so that it dosen't flood my engine,

i think the only one here that got hydrolocked is racerhex, might want to talk to him

AEM has some sort of "bypass valve" don't they? A sort of back-up intake in case your filter becomes completely submerged.

Yes, AEM does have a bypass valve that does not allow water past that point. Here is a web-site that explains it and you can buy it. http://www.import-performance-parts....pass-Valve.htm
And straight from AEM http://www.aempower.com/induction.htm

i know about the by pass valve but if put that on you lose air flow to the engine. It blocks the water and redices airflow not hat i want but thanks for the info

the aem part is just another inlet basically think of cutting 4 slits around the pipe and place foam to filter it
it will suck alittle more hot air now
and uses some principle of weight of the water and suction of the engine off balances to end up sucking more engine area air
if you ever submerged the front end in water

regualr rain is fine ,no problems at all have i ever had
except that one ractive filter i had had an opening in the front as well as the sides which did have a little more water get into the engine which is no big deal just dirt can fly off the sides but the inner cone traps the dirt and the more water you get the more it dissolves it as it is stuck in there

later
