Question Tokico Blues aka Tokico HP or KYB GR2

Hi everyone, I have a 94 camry LE with Intrax Lowering Spring 1.6F/1.5R drop. So anyone can tell me which kind of strut is better. Tokico HP aka Tokico Blues Or KYB GR2. Which one is has better reputation and performance?
Coz my back struts are too weak, my rear tires scratched!
Thanks everyone here!

You can read my solara set up below. You can see I have the KYB GS-2 with Eibach 1.6'' drop. I too had to decide between the two. I really wanted the tokico HP mainly because I heard they are a little better quality and stiffness. But they were back ordered and I didn't want to wait. So I went with the KYB. After driving with them in Chicago streets for a year, I am really surprised. I have had no problems, they are firmer then OEM and handled the drop fine. I have heard the Tokico would be still a little firmer, but in reality, I bet they are both pretty close. So I think you'd be happy with either that you choose.

Hope this helps !

You're probably not going to find a consensus in the KYB vs. Tokico debate here.... I've been asking the same questions about two months ago and I still havn't heard a strong case for either one. In the end, you just have take a look at your wallet and take a chance. I'm getting the KYBs next week because they are cheaper than the Tokicos, and I'd feel less bad if I didn't like them than if I pay more for the Tokicos and didn't like them either.

The only shock that you'll find an agreement about here are probably the Koni's....but they are madd $$$.

KYB's are bad news, end of story. CT Motorsport no longer carries them because of quailty issues with this application and others(not that i carry anything other than camry stuff, but thats the word from my suppliers) I have been running KYBs on my 93 for 9 months now, and the rear blew, and it wasnt even lowered. Plus, i have noticed they are getting softer over time. Save the money a while longer, and get tokicos, you will not be disapointed.

The KYBs are a good option if cost is an issue, but right now the tokico struts are on group buy which actually makes them cheaper than i have found the KYBs to be.

Tokico struts are of much better quality and they have a lifetime warranty. I have the tokico/eibach setup and i love it

i have tokicos on my car, with a 4" drop in front, about 2" on the rear. they are designed for a lowered car with a stiffer setup, and going from what sean said, there should be no question.

also if you are ever worried about a product being a little more pricey, save up and do it right the first time!! its taken me many times to figure this out, but it will save you a lot of money in the long run if you just go with the quality first.

get the tokicos!!!

Thanks for everyone's advice! So i have F1.6/R1.5. Now i decided to use tokico with my intrax. Will the wheels hit against the rear fender again if i bring 3 of my friends at the rear seat? Coz right now, i m using intrax with stok strut. It is too soft and my tire scratch when a friend sit at the front and a friend sit at the back. Just the driver rear side will hit the fender and get scratch. The other side still works fine, even my friend sit at the passenger rear side, the driver rear side still hit against. Do u guys know why? Is the stock strut problem, i mean both rear side have different stiffeness strut?

That could be because one of your stock struts is blown, how long have you been lowered? The Tokicos should help.

I agree. It definately sounds like you destroyed your struts. The ride quality is proablly extra soft now too.

With 3 ppl in my back seat, and a full system I don't rub, but that may be because I only have 17" rims. What size rims do you have? Either way you really shouldn't be rubbing.

Yeah i'm using somekind of OEM aftermarket strut by monroe. The struts quite new. Around 2 week age. I install it coz they are free from my friend. My rim size is 225/50/R16.

IS tokico non sealed strut or sealed strut? What's the difference between sealed and non sealed and serviceable? What about my 94 camry? What do i need to use?

Serviceable or non sealed struts actually come appart so that you can put a new cartrage in them. It looks like a shock within the strut. To see if you can do that, look at the part where the shaft goes into the strut. If that can screw off, you have non sealed.
