expensive wheel locks

Just purchased a 2002 Camry XLE V6. The person I bought it from had wheel locks installed by the dealer, but he lost the socket. Our Toyota dealer thinks that they can remove them with the master set but they want $175.00 to remove the old and install a new set. Seems kinda steep. Do I have any other options? Are there any after market removal tools? New to the forum and appreciate any help you can give me

if you know how to weld, then you can weld a bolt onto it and take it out that way

OR, go to a tire shop and they can remove them for you for a lot cheaper than 175bucks

the dealership is screawing you- for that kind of money, you can just drill it out and put in new studs and still come out ahead

I'd try a dremmel motor tool. Use cutting discs to cut a diagonal slot in the head of each wheel lock and use a wide screwdriver and a large pair of vice-grips to remove them. Hope that works or gives you some other ideas.

I had the same problem where I bought a car and the socket to the lock nuts didnt come with it! I thought it wouldnt be to hard, the shape of it looked prity generic (it was aftermarket), but after going around to a couple of stores none had it. So I went to a tyre shop and they could take it off for AU$30.... so thats the cheaper option.

I didnt get it taken off though in my case, waiting till I need to change my tyres (very soon) so I dont have to pay anything for it!

You can hammer a undersized socket down onto the lug and it'll grab hold and you can remove it. This is what theives do to wheel locks. I learned from a buddy that worked at NTB long ago, they used the same technique. It'll probably cost you 4 sockets.

The lug should be very tight anyway since they are hub centric wheels.

God yes! Cheaper to replace the lug then pay the dealer for that. Wheel locks cost around $15.00 from my tire dealer. I had them added to both my Buick & my Camry.
