try leaving your opinions in your head... some people like painting an old car to make it look new. when you have a lot of work into an old car, and you have a few grand in the engine bay, and a few grand in the electonics and audio, you have to put a few into the exterior too...

Now tell me, if lets say, a tree fell over your car the next day, would your insurance company give you all the money you put into engine, body, and paint?
Definetly not. Hardly you would get a $3000, if your car is worth $4000.
no, but its more than physical value... its the value of the time spent, skill utilized and pains taken that goes into a project. I believe you need to finish it off with a good paintjob... why do you think they call it a "Finish"... ex. "look at the finish on that thing."
And tell me, is it worth spending $10,000 just to give finshing on the stuff you already done? For old car, I would say, just do a patchup paint spray, and that should be it.
I am telling you, because I destroyed 5 cheap cars in last 2 years. This one is my sixth. But I spent extra $2000 in almost all of them for repairs. Then finally I learnt, what things are worth spend money on and what are not worth it.
