Has happened to me too ! I guess it's a grouding prob. since the car sits on rubber it doesn't discharge . Have u noticed that happens mostly when it's dry !

Get a grounding strap. Although it is strange that the only cars that have shocked me are Toyotas. My family has about 18 Toyotas right now (that's extended family, not immediate! ) and I've received fairly large shocks from them all. None of the other makes of cars that we have (volvo, VW, benz, honda, and mazda) have ever shocked me.
you guys are funny
you say you get shocked getting out right?
do you ever feel a bit sick if driving for a bit?
it is caused by stattic
from the car seat fabric
so as you move across it to get out you get shocked
the strips won't help but they will make you look like you belong at pacific mall
try wiping down the car interior with a damp cloth will more than likely help to reduce the problem
static? but the weird thing is, ive only started getting shocked since only a short while ago.
before that, it was fine. and i havent changed any of my movements in relation to the seat fabric or anything.
it just started happening all of a sudden.
I hate this. My 1999 v6 auto camry has been doing this to me since day one. There has to be a better solution... Will doing something similar to that "hyper grounds" performance wiring help?
I think it also depend on one person or another. I am always used to get terrible shocks though my girlfriend never gets anything. Some people need to get discharged on one way or another. I know it seems very funny but I have been told that walking naked feet on the grass should help (I have never tried)

yea, its the cloth. I'm definitely going to wipe it down with a damp cloth soon, but its happenned since I got the car in 94, so I'm used to it now!
it was one reason why I didn't get back in the car while filling gas, you guys hear about that myth about the gas station exploding because of cell phones? psha!
MythBusters tested that myth, it was hilarious!
if you want to get rid of this problem, just simply touch or hold the step (or the plastic guarded trim panel) before you touch the door or something... the place that i'm talking about is just left of the trunk and gas cap release levers. Just grab that plastic trim panel after you open the door and you'll be free of any charges that may shock you.

Its not really a myth... anything that causes static can ignite fumes. I watched a car burn at a Shell station near by. The driver was rushed to the hospital and was later quoted on the news as saying they got a shock from the pump just as they started filling up and then there was just a rush of flames.
Its the fabric seats. I get shocked all winter long cause I wear a wool coat and its fairly dry, not so much in the summer tho, humid as hell here.
