ok if u get a Aftermarket HID conversion kit this will happen because they are crap hi beams. if u get a OEM hella, phillips, or osram kit low beam will power the hid's up b/c they have bulit in relay(dotn burn out), ignitors, and are over all Excellent quality and Great Durability. as per what ur saying is that u have DRL's? or that everytime u turn your car on the ligts turn on with it. i have a 98 LE so i help u out alot since i did a hid retrofit and conversion also.
With the Lights on HI Beam, when car's off u open ur door the light turn off. and the next time u turn ur car on the HID fire up again. BUT U HAVE TO LEAVE THE LIGHT SWITCH IN THE HI-BEAM POSITION. they lights will turn off when u open door so dont worry about it.
when ever i release my handbreak, the hid will fire up. I don't have to switch anything to get the hid to turn on.
but all i am asking is can i turn the kit ON only when i switch it to high beam mode?
there are 3 wires/connectors i need to connect to the bulb from the ballast to make it working. but now i only have 2 wires, which only the ground and low beam are connected, one left empty.
yes u can. DO NOT CUT UR EXISTING HARNESS THAT'S CONNECTED TO UR CAR. (my friend did it)
LOW BEAM

CONNECT GROUND TO GROUND AND POWER TO HI-BEAM AND UR HID'S WILL FIRE UP WHEN U TURN UR HI'S ON. what i used to connect are thse connecter for speakers the Male ones. not the female. they kinda look like a small flat head screw driver. ill post pics of them later on today. and they are very secure. just put e tape around the harness and ull be straight.
BTW try low beam to see if it works and let me know. hope this helped
Why did you connect up to your high beam? Why not just use the low beam? His '99 has DRL, and is on through the high beam when the parking brake is disengaged. So the HID will always be on.
BTW, your diagram of the H4 switching mechanism is WRONG. How did you come up with that? This is what it should be (at the top of the picture).
Here is a good FYI reading about retrofitting HID. Is HID for you?
look under low beam it says "_" that was ment to be C. and ground and hi A and B. I think i know how my own car looks. and i own a 98 LE so there's a big diff. i just told him whatever i knew about my car. but Thanks for the info. if u read my post i try to stress that i own 98. but nice try
That's good you do know about your own car, but did you know that '99-up has DRL as standard equipment? By telling him to use the high beam, the HID will always be lit even if the headlights are not on. I know that the '-' was meant to be C, but the depiction was confusing even if formatting were proper. Yes, I did read that you have a 98, just like mine.
A relay kit for $30?? Single SPDT Bosch relay cost $5, spade connector about 10 cents each, 14-gauge wire about 25 cents/foot.
Well. i bought a REady made Relay Kit from Pepboys for 35 after tax. it comes with everything u need, fuse, fuse box, wires, relay, and everything is long enuff so all u have to do is drill a hole and cut wires. if u can make one for less then more power to u. and the Relay is a heaveduty 120amp. so u know it's enuff power. but hey U do U. and AFTERMARKET HID KIT"S like Hanabi, Vision, K2, etc require u too plug them into hi-beams they dotn work on low-beam.. trust me i have a hanabi kit H4 that is caughting dust. I bought a Audi/BMW Hella Kit, much better looking and goes in low beam.
So i know what's happening and Y. im sure u know it to as well. but hey no need to get all pissy me and you. lil misunderstanding on both our parts. I am sorry.
Bigshoguns, no need to apologize, as I share the fault of jumping to conclusions too often as well. I wish everyone could be like yourself in trying to learn about their own cars, through the good and bad, but with forums like these, it is much easier just to ask. Thus, I refuse to work on anyone's car without going through it in mine first. Better to break a car part than a friendship. We are all learning something new everyday.
Anyway...for RayRaymond, I hope you can understand the H4 switching pattern, so you can determine the proper way to turn on the HID as you want it. Do know that DRL and automatic headlight turn-on both pose complications, but with some patience, it can be done.
As much as I would like to get a HID kit, but after reading the article, it seems to be counterproductive to have it in a reflective lens, versus a projector lens. Plus, the cut-off may not be proper, so oncoming traffic may be blinded.
