Well, I am going to reply even though I am not 100% sure, I have found that if a post tends to go unanswered for a few days, people tends to jump on it especially if there is false/misleading information.
Dextron III replaced Dextron II. I believe Mercon is the name the Ford Motor Company uses.
If you are going to change fluid to different type, you should have transmissioin flushed as well as the filter changed. This process removes all of the fluid from the torque converter and housing; as opposed to a regular drain which only removes roughly half of the fluid.
I know my I4 uses approx 7 quarts dry or 3.5 when the pan is dropped. Check the owners manual, it has all specs in the back.
