Going backwards from a Gen3 to Gen2, differences?

I recently wrecked my '94 Camry and though I've gotten it driveable again, there are some destroyed support braces that require welding to replace which is beyond me. There are also misc mechanical issues. I'm thinking pretty seriously about selling the car and using the money to buy a Gen2 Camry in good shape. There is a great u-pull yard here in Denver that has tons of Camrys from 85-91, but they didn't have a single Gen3. The one place I found that did have Gen3s in the yard wanted ridiculous prices for the parts.

What are the real differences between Gen2 & Gen3? What are the engines in the Gen2, and how durable are they in comparison with the 5sfe and the 1mze? Are Gen2s easier or harder to work on than Gen3s? How is new aftermarket parts availability?

Well, I drove GEn1, 2 and 3.

My Gen1 was pretty good, Gen 2 was heavily rusted, had to spend a lot to keep it running. Well, it depends on how well maintained a car is. You can't really tell with the odometer that it is actual one unless u order carfax report. My Gen2 also had bad blower motor, so no heating sometimes in winter. My Gen1 was pretty good though, it was standard, but its gearbox broke. I had to spend $88 for repair. It was good car altogether.
