synthetic oil

it's almost time for my first oil change and i was wondering about the benefits of switching to a synthetic oil. also i read somewhere that you should break the engine in on regular oil first then switch to synthetic. is 5,000 miles enough time or should i wait until i hit the 10,000 mile mark?

if its a new car i heard from some where that its 7000 miles.. but i could be wrong. and for used cars its just about 3000miles.. so which ever you choose its ok but just try not to go over the 10,000 mark.. Good Luck

I hear 20K. I think it has to do with seals. Like regular Oil will help engine seals seal better. I dunno, I'm not sure about that. Right now since the engine is new its more important to change the oil than the type. Also, breaking in a new engine slowly from the beginning will probably do more for your engine. But, thats my opinion.

The thread below was a discussion on what synthetic people used, when you do decide to switch. I think most people will agree that just chaning your oil is the best thing for your engine.
