Intake and exhaust questions

What's the difference between cold air intakes and short ram intakes and any other kind of intakes, besides the length of the pipes?

Also, what different kind of exhaust options are there and what're the pros and cons of them?

And what are the expected horse power gains from any of these mods?

Feel free to move this thread if you decide it needs moving.

Cold air gets air out side the engine bay, ram air is udner the hood which gets the headed up air. Maybe up to 10 hp can be expected, some intakes go as high as 20 for other cars.

Exhaust is the same, but there is nothing for you gen except custom. Get a magnaflow muffler and go from there.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to guess that to get a new intake and exhaust and have them installed it would cost over $500. So it would probably be a better idea for me to sell my car and try to find a v6 camry, or even just a completely different car (I want a Celica, but not one of the new ones).

I've seen that some people here have turbocharged their Camry's. But turboing a v6 would still be a better idea than turboing a i4, I think. What kind of % HP gains do turbos and supercharging add?

Thats not true !!! I have a Magnaflow stainless steel right now and it's not that loud ! I could say it's comparable to the stock one !But than again depends on ur exhaust pipe dimensions etc.

cold air or nothing
short pipes lose power and gas mileage just sucking in hot air
pipe width go for 2.25 for the 4cyl stainless steel
mufflers are just a personal thing pick a style you like then shop on the web

That's a bit optimistic for the Camry.
