Does toyota use the same wiring color scheme throughout the generations for camries? (if not for all of their vehicles)
i have a wiring guide listing of colors and what's in each wire/what it's for, but it's for an older camry and was wondering if it would still be accurate on newer ones.
TN has on-line wiring diagrams for 1987 to 2007 Camry. The electrical design between generations of cars is close. One model-wiring diagram does help with another. But before using an earlier or later diagram it would be best to confirm some know wires colors and locations are the same. Toyota can and does change things.
i'm trying to find an always-hot 12v to tap into within the bundles of wires that are laid along the driver's side. i don't think i saw any white with red tracers
all i saw was red with white stripe, or else i'm looking at the wrong harness. regardless, none of those wires seemed to have any slack for me to work with.
this is for a gen 5.5 LE.
are there any always-hot 12v lines behind the console just in front of the shifter? there are bunches of cables that are just taped/wrapped off i'm assuming for features that my car didn't get, in the same bundle as the 12v cig plug harness is on.

The ignition harness is hard to miss. 6 or so 10-12 awg. wires at the bottom of the steering column.

yeah i put myself upside down in the driver's seat with my head in the well (cause the door has to be closed and i didn't wanna go through the hassle of taking off the panels to disconnect the door ground switch) and i saw the bigger wires. but i also saw a white w/ red stripe wire that was skinner on a harness to side of the ignition ones so i tried that but for some reason it's not working. voltimeter reading on that white w/red striped wire was pretty much 0
where would be a convenient spot to tap into the thick white w/red ignition cable? i'm having a really hard time getting enough slack to work with it but i could always go closer to the firewall i suppose and go hacking away at all that electrical wrap and looming.
i'm just wondering why that skinnier white w/red stripe wire wasn't getting any juice

Don't assume that wire is constant +12V, just because its the same color as a wire in the ignition harness. That wire may be for something else, for what I don't know.
Did you probe the big wires in the ignition harness? White and white/red should be constant +12V.
And did you hookup the black probe on the meter to a good ground? Just because its metal, doesn't mean its grounded.
Is the meter set on the proper voltage range?

yeah the meter was set to 20 for voltage and when i touched a good ground it would jump to 0.04 and go back to 0. that was for the skinny wire.
anyway, the thicker wire should be fine, i was trying to avoid using that one and find a constant source somewhere more convenient to work with but no luck with that i guess.
still got some work to do but i'm too stressed out.
i'm trying to get cathodes to turn on when i press the unlock on my remote but all i got now are lights that turn on when the door is opened. grrrrrr.
