Turbo update!!!!

Here is an update on how my car is coming along;
Got it as a stock automatic and it was running high 17's in the 1/4 mile.
Swapped to 5 speed, lightened flywheel, underdrive pulley, intake, act clutch, sticky tires and it was good for high 16's .......
last night I took it to the track at Gateway International and my first pass on 6 pounds of boost netted me a 60 ft time of 2.56 (ouch!) and 15.5 @ 91.1 mph! Next I tried launching at a higher rpm and shifting into 4th since 3rd gear raps out right before the finish.... ouch 16.1 @89 mph.... Next I lowered tire pressure since first gear was having issues with traction and I just let third gear bounce off the rev limiter once or twice, This netted me my best run of the night.....

Not bad but I was a bit dissapointed. Mostly I suck at launching, a 2.437 60 foot is pretty bad but for every tenth of a second the 60 foot time drops, its a drop in two tenths off the ET. So if I can net a 2.25 or so I should be able to bring in a 14.9 second pass at a trap speed still in the low 90's. I am going back to the track again and raising boost back up to 9psi that I had been running for awhile. I ran 6 pounds at the track to get used to it first and I retuned while I was driving down to the track. So a better tune, 3 more psi, better launch, and new plugs and I hope to bring in a 14 second pass before the end of the season. (as temps keep dropping, the car pulls harder and harder too...) Oh and the other car was an 04 Civic 5 speed with headers, chip, intake, exhaust, clutch, and sticky tires. (beat him in a 4 door camry lol)
Here is how the car is looking lately;

Made a heat shield out of some scrap sheet metal and painted it duplicolor aluminum, really cut down on radiant heat quite a bit. I also used the old short ram intake to extend the filter off the turbo compressor and into a cooler area. I want to make an aluminum shield to isolate the filter and have it draw air from the fender eventually.

I added a Greddy full auto turbo timer and installed it where the stock clock used to be. Lights up blue at night and looks pretty cool.

I got a 11.5 inch steering wheel and a momo hub off a friend for $50 so what the heck.

Stay tuned I will keep trying to break 14 second barrier and post up when I do, then I need a 3sgte to go for 12 second barrier! I want to see how far a 4th gen can be pushed...

awesome...

very nice. that heat shield really cleans up the engine bay without the mani staring out at you. are those your track wheels? oh and leasaunce made a very similar intake isolater box for his gen 4, he might be able to help you there if you need it.

Those are the same wheels I always roll around on track and daily. I dont put on different wheels and take out the spare tire and a jack and a seat I like to see what the car really runs like on any old day.

Good bloody time man! low 15's is VERY decent. Are there any internal mods to the engine? Would it handle more boost?..id love to see what it does on higher boost! hehe

Yeah I have had it up to ten pounds for a few weeks and compression looks fine so I run 8 daily dropped it down to 6 for the track because I was afraid of breaking axles or something. Screw all that next time at the track I will come back with a solid 9-10 pounds. It pulls so much harder at 10psi than 6, I kept waiting for the kick in the pants and it wouldnt happen because I am used to the higher boost. At ten pounds it was good enough to tear up any ricer and most "quick" cars on the highway. In the end I could probably knock out a 14.9 if I was better at launching, I bogged pretty bad and still cut the 15.3 so I am going to practice more!

Have you thought about extending the pipe into the fender and have the filter sitting inside the fender?

Yeah the only unreliable part is that when I shift hard I break flex pipes and at 11 psi I stripped all the teeth off second gear on my last 5 speed, also the couplers like to blow off the throttle body sometimes but easy fix. I had thought of moving the filter to the fender but I thought a tig welded aluminum shield around the filter where it is now with some weather stripping around the top to seal against the hood would be hot. Then I was gonna put a small scoop and some dryer hose to pull air from under the car (slight ram air effect) and dump it out of the hole in the fender right into the aluminum airbox. Then I could easily inspect the filter too. Dunno I will just see what I feel like when I get time.

After you hit ur mark you should gut the car, take out watever you can just to see how low you can really get it. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!! I have been watching your ever since i got my camry. I'm about to get my clear headlights and maybe the fog lamps (not sure if i can mold it into the bumper my self) when i go back home to jamaica. Cause we get all jap cars there, they're badged gracia.

Well I did all the work I mean everything so labor aside here is a basic breakdown:
2 Ct26 turbos (one for parts), return line, 3 BAR map , injectors, manifold, gasket----$400
Downpipe and full 2.5 exhaust with ebay muffler------------------------------------------$200
oil feed and gauge and adapters-----------------------------------------------------------$100
Walbro fuel pump, braided ss line fittings, aeromotive reg ------------------------------$300
SAFC2, sparkplugs, wideband o2------------------------------------------------------------$500
HKS BOV, intercooler, piping and couplers--------------------------------------------------$200
Total------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------$1700
I got a lot of freebies, I scrounged for parts at junkyards, and got good deals on expensive parts (HKS bov for $70) so it wasnt too bad. It took me a year to find all the parts though because I waited for sales and deals.
