For those of you who have put an Auto shifter into a Camry..I have some questions..I took apart the stock shifter today.. There is a guide peice at the bottom that keeps the plastic slider in place. When I removed the guide peice and the stock shifter, the plastic slider that slides into the gear lights.. D, N R, P etc.. did not work correctly..When I was in D the plastic slide would show 2 etc..
So, how do I fix this problem?? Can I fix it? Or is it just something you live with..???

Well, I dont know what the problem is. I'd just live with it, as long as you know what gear ur in. I took out my shifter assembly all together. I cut down the shofter, put on a shifter knob, and replaced the plastic piece that said "PRND2L" on it, and replaced with a leather shifter boot. I took it to a local mechanic and he about broke the shifter off, thinking it was a 5 speed! Most people says its stupid to have it, but I think it looks kool...
Damn, sorry I forgot what the question was! My guess would be that the indicator is off. But, IMHO, I never even looked at it when Im shifting. I just remember that one down is reverse, and 2 more down is drive. you'll get used to it.

i kinda understand what you're saying. you should just be able to open it up and put the guides back in place. your car will probably be in park as you're doing this (or so we hope) so just make sure it says PARK when you close it up again.
The issue is not knowing what gear I am in, I dont look down to check. I just think that it should work properly thats all..
I will just have to play around with it,
Mike.

yea man that is look kool i like it! but make shure u tell people when they gonna drive ur car hahaha cuz i got one and i show ppl how to drive it
What I have done was trimmed that "guide" so it will sit lower and still do its job at guiding the shifter indicator. The stock O/D button was retained and relocated to the shifter plate instead

Yo Tony, listen how the hell did u take that portion out,,, i cant figure out how to remove that center unit thing that seperates the driver and passenger seats, where the shifter is, how do u take that apart and out i wanna do some moding to it but i never figured out how to remove the parts...pleaaaaaaaaaaase Explain
dawgz the first thing you have to do is take out the back piece, the ashtray, and the cover around the shifter by prying
up on the backside(the round side),you also have to take off
the lower panals under the stearing wheel and the glove box.
then you can see all the screws that hold it in,dont forget the
plastic things down by your feet.then you can just lift it off.

Your mechanic must be a huge dumbass then. How does he not notice the lack of a clutch pedal and then proceed to move the stick like a standard shift?
