Question Need help on deacceleration issue with my 90 Camry

Hi there, I want to make sure this isn't just a common thing before I start looking into a repair.
When I am going highway speeds if I take my foot off the gas it jerks and goes slower, maybe by 10 MPH. The last time I had a car do this they said it was the motor mounts but I fail to believe anything that shop says anymore.
Now that I bought another car (the camry) that does this also, I'm thinking maybe this is just how they drive? I am used to driving newer cars that when you take your foot off the gas they "coast" and I do not have to keep pressing the gas to maintain higher speeds.

Is this a problem? and if it is do you know what might need to be fixed? I'd like to be able to repair it myself, I don't go to the shop unless it's a job I can't handle myself.

Thanks,
Elka

I'm not too sure about the gen1/2 camry, but it sounds as though the car may be downshifting?

at what speeds does this happen? only at low speeds? or at highway cruising speeds?

It happens at highway speeds. Once I am driving about 60 or above it's really apparent. Also seems to accelerate pretty sluggish (coming onto an onramp) but I am told that this is common for this car, it's not the quickest car.

Also I figured I should add:

Automatic transmission
4 cylinder
Fuel Injection

Recently replaced:
Distributor Cap
Spark plug wires
Spark Plugs (Bosch Platinum)
Alternator

The described issue is common on older Camrys. When you release accelerator , the Throttle position sensor tells computer to disengage lock-up clutch in the torque converter, thus it feels like an extra shift. Older motor mounts cannot absorb the shock very well, therefore it feels like car has jumped over the pothole.

So should I put in new motor mounts or can I just ride it like this for a while?
