USA Battery recommendation plz.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. My friend's says his 2002 Camry's head light is automatically turns off after turn off the engine. Is that true???

Actually he reported that his battery is out, and asked me to replace the battery for the sake of lunch.
Can anyone recommend me a fine aftermarket battery?

Thanks!

In it's current issue, Consumer Reports rated a battery at Wal-mart as a best buy. You can check out the magazine at your local library and read up on their latest tests on batteries.

After shutting the engine off and opening theh driver side door, the lights will automatically shut off after 15 or 30 seconds - I forget which. That is completely normal. To keep them on for longer than that, you need to twist the switch so that all the lights turn off then back on again with the engine off. There is no automatic off when you do this though.

I just bought a battery at Costco for $50 with 100 month warranty and $5 core charge. I don't know where it ranks though.

FWIW, I replaced the battery in our '93 with an Exide as I have done in my old truck and my Crapillac. For some reason my batteries like to die on Sundays, and where we live we have the Blue Laws meaning not much is open. So the choice was made by default as the local parts store was the only thing open and they handle Exide. That being said, they have been fine. I sold the old truck and the 48 month battery is still going strong after 8 years. I've just come up to the 60 months on the Camry battery and will replace it shortly because my wife drives the car and I don't need any more aggravation than I have now.
FWIW
YMMV

I've always bought Die Hard batteries and have had very good luck with them.

I installed a Die Hard Gold in my Maxima in 1998. It will be 9 years on that battery in 4 months. It still works just fine.

What about Energizer brand? I've used mine for 2 years and no probs yet. Just wanted to know how they compare to other brands like Kirkland at Costco to Optima deep cycle stuff?

For you, maybe an Optima Red Top or Die Hard. Do NOT buy a Yellow Top unless you have an audio system or plan to leave your car for more than a couple weeks at a time.

Consumer Report rated the WalMart Everstart Maxx as one of the best. 9 year warranty and 3 year free replacement..$59. Warranty good at every WalMart nationwide.

I would also second the Optima Red Top battery. Though a little more expensive to purchase, it's a better purchase in the long run. My Red Top has lasted going on nine years and through three different vehicles of which one was my Xterra and took a severe beating off road. Another battery you might want to mention would be Odyssey.
