Question 9005 vs 9006

pretty self explanatory, on the camry faqs sticky.. states that 9005's have more lumenince than 9006 by 70%.. and is it just me or thats ALOT!? is this confirmed anyone? and if so then why isnt everyone doing this trick to gain better light output? and the HIR'S, dont they provide 70% more output too?

btw i never seen a 9005 bulb before..

whats the downsides to a 9005 bulb?

You have 9005 bulbs on your car already. They are the high beam bulbs.

there is no downside.

Only possible downside is with the various brands...ie silverstars-- which is popular on this forum, can last between 6-12 months, even less for some people.

TrickyAzn has an older camry, I'm thinking gen 3/4? They come with just 2006's for the regular headlights, and 2005s for the highbeams.

When someone is doing the 9006- 9005 swap, they are basically putting in the "high beam" bulbs into the regular headlights.

I did it for my Gen 3.5. Nice light output, definitely better than the 9006 bulbs.

so considering that you said there are no downsides.. putting highbeam bulbs into your low beams, the bulbs dont wear down that long and that they have superior output right?

They wear down faster, are slightly brighter, and produce a bit more glare from stray light shooting higher than it should since the optics of your headlamp assembly were only designed for 9006 in the lowbeam (not much though).
