cv boot broke, need help

today i had my tires aligned. the mechanic found that the front pAssenger black boot next to tire was split open. he said i could drive around for a while but when i heard clicking it would be time to get it fixed.

what should i do? the quoted me $160 USD to fix it. seems like to much to me. what you think?

order a new boot and replace it myself? I plan on getting some new 17" rims w/ tires struts and springs to be installed in like 2 months. should i buy new one and bring it it and have them do that when i get my struts and all?

how hard is it to do? and where i can i buy a replacement?

Thanks.

If you wait till it starts clicking you'll have to replace the entire axle.

If the joint is still in good condition you can just replace the boot.

$160 to replace the boot or entire axle?

Hey, CV boot is no problem, should be 'bout 100-120(depends on mechanic as well) or so but make sure he's replacing the axle with a new one. "Fixing" only the CV boot means cleaning it out and replacing the boot which is lots of labor. More labor=more money. I had same problem with both sides up front, couple hours of work and I had my car back no probs.
